This 100 percent. When posters say they hate the union, they mean they want the right to treat teachers like their servants, hover over them like the Gestapo, interfere with their ability to do their jobs, judge them for being successful or failing at what they do notwithstanding that they themselves are no more qualified to judge then vice-versa, and fire them at will. They want the right to be adverse to teachers and not to work in tandem with that. And that means they hate teachers, and that the WTU is necessary to protect teachers from their haters. |
| Go ahead and say I hate teachers. I don’t really care what you think. I won’t vote for a candidate backed by the union. |
Agree McDuffie is corrupt and if he becomes mayor we will see stuff like this. But I also think if we elect JLG, we'll see her opposing common sense solutions on crime and education in the name of equity, and gaslighting residents who point out there is nothing "equitable" about being afraid or watching your child's school fail them. That's why the choice is terrible. |
Yea, I get it. You think you know better than everyone else and are qualified to tell everyone else how to do their jobs. But, thank goodness, we have unions to protect the broader public from people like you. |
DP but the WTU doesn't exist to protect the broader public. |
Learn to read. I said "unions" generally. |
Those also don't exist to protect the general public. |
Let's stop arguing over semantics, shall we? The point is that posters who hate the WTU hate it because it largely exists to protect its members, which includes the overwhelming majority of teachers, from posters like them. Posters who think they know better than actual teachers. |
This is where I am. 10/10 times the man will give tax cuts to businesses and inflated contracts to friendlies while failing to fully fund schools if the budget requires. JLG leaves A LOT to be desired in numerous areas, but I think I am more willing to try something new versus Bowser 2.0. I haven’t voted yet and for the first time in awhile I may be deciding on Election Day instead of voting early by mail. |
This is exactly how I feel and it stinks. I truly go back and forth on these two and have no clue what I'll end up doing. Yesterday I almost went to a early voting site and ranked Gary and then Kenyan. But I could also see myself ranking JLG when the time comes. The choice is horrible. |
Even union people hate teachers unions. Them and police unions are the worst. I remember how the WTU cynically turned the pandemic into the world's longest paid vacation. Our kids are still paying the price. |
WTF |
That’s fine, you hate the people meant to help your child succeed. I’m sure your child’s teachers honestly hate you too. |
Faaaaake news. You can easily actually watch the video or even read the transcript. They shouldn’t let low IQ propaganda bigots vote. |
No, when I say I hate WTU, what I mean is I hate the organization of WTU. We used to live elsewhere and I had zero issues with the teachers union. Also, I always treat my kids' teachers with respect and appreciation, and it has nothing to do with them being in a union. It's because I respect teaching as a profession. I have a sister who is a teacher, as is her husband and his whole family. My MIL taught for 30 years. I literally love teachers. I appreciate that DCPS teachers are well paid and am fine with how WTU has advocated for their compensation. But WTU leadership is C-R-A-Z-Y. Their rhetoric is bat$hit and the behavior of some of those leaders during the pandemic was really disturbing. I know teachers who privately say the same thing even though they'd never vocalize it publicly. Not all teachers unions took the hard line WTU did, including advocating for things that were not even backed by science (like arguing we couldn't go back until we had N95 masks for everyone, even vaccinated teachers and children who absolutely could not wear N95s all day). You can love teachers and hate WTU. There are even teachers who feel this way. I suspect the crazy person in the thread screaming at everyone for hating teachers is one of WTU's leadership, I think we all know which one frequents this board and others with her personality disorder. |
