I think this is the thing that will push me to McDuffie. |
An appointed, competent autocrat saved DC from itself. Then we elected him and he did a phenomenal job. People who are arguing that "engagement" of any sort is more important than ideas might want to consider that's the same line of thinking that go Trump elected. "He listens to me, understands my plight and I would want to have a beer with him." |
NP. I hate the WTU. I think they are crooked. They are a detriment to our kids' education. I also love teachers. If you can't differentiate between teachers and the WTU then...you probably collect a paycheck from the WTU. |
False. Both McDuffie and JLG oppose the $1,850 per pupil funding gap in Bowser's budget proposal. “‘The third thing that is important for me … is making sure that we have a fair funding formula for both our DC public schools and DC charter schools. And so that means everything needs to go through the funding formula. And what we have done is created an inequitable system by taking our funds out of that funding formula and then piecemealing our funding. We need to make sure that all of our students get the dollars they deserve because all of our students deserve the same level of investment.’” — Councilmember Janeese Lewis George, speaking at the Washington Latin Public Charter School education forum “‘The school funding formula exists for a reason: to ensure every student is funded fairly and transparently. When we pull dollars out of the formula, it is students in our highest-need schools, particularly those in Wards 5, 7 and 8. Every child in the District deserves a quality education, no matter their ZIP code, school, or family income. As Mayor, I will fully fund and follow the funding formula to protect at-risk dollars.’” — Former At-Large Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie |
How can anyone possibly still defend closing schools for as long as we did? There is a generation of kids who basically never came back to school. It was a disaster. Teachers are essential workers like nurses and doctors. Most other societies recognized this. |
Maybe it has just been a long day, but I have no idea who you are referring to in this thread - who is the autocrat who did a phenomenal job? If we are talking about the mayoral race, are you referencing back to Fenty? |
This person was probably talking about Anthony Williams, who was the CFO for DC who balanced the budget, and then went on to become the mayor who brought in enough investment to fuel DC's growth for more than a decade. |
| Anthony Williams, and s/he means bureaucrat, not autocrat. |
+1 |
| I support GDS. |
| Elite private schools families need a champion. |
Teachers are the WTU. So yes you hate teachers. |
Really? Doesn’t she understand that a good education helps keep young people out of trouble and out of prison? Does she only advocate for youth once they’ve already entered the criminal justice system? |
The self delusion of some people is really astonishing. To claim you don’t hate teachers but hate the WTU is not only wild, but completely divorced from reality. WTU represents 90-95% of DCPS teachers, so if said person is claiming they hate WTU, they definitely hate public school teachers at the very least. |
How can you sit there knowing even without covid many schools are infested with mice, rats, and roaches. These already pose a health risk. Teachers already get ill from regular germs from children -specifically young children who need the supervision.DCPS did not have enough safety precautions such as air purifiers to open earlier. Buying into Boswer’s lies is just like a teacher-hater. The majority of wanted to go back BUT as safely as possible. As a teacher who went back in Jan 2021, please stop with the ‘essential worker’ nonsense. This country does NOT care about teachers or public education. |
