Um... that totally depends on which public school. |
None of these. This kid will get into schools a tier above, |
Thanks for being a jerk. This person is seeking advice and was vulnerable about her child's situation (which honestly is good by almost most standards), and you took advantage of the situation to vent your feelings and try to make others feel bad. Not sure if that's out of resentment or just nasty temperament, but try to keep it in check. This board has enough toxic people on it as-is. |

Davidson is a great school but I wouldn’t say it’s materially more competitive than some of the others. The median 50% SAT is 1460, the same as Wake, same as W&M (1470).
Davidson (2000 undergrads) is also much smaller than Wake (5500 undergrads) and W&M (7000), |
Davidson is slightly harder, though not tremendously harder, than both of those. Visited all three and kids at Davidson just seemed "smarter" - can't explain how but they were. |
True. For Langley, the average is 1380, and that includes the SN students. |
That isn't borne out by the actual data for enrolled students in the Common Data Sets. |
| Doesn’t really matter. There is not a real difference in admissions or prestige so it comes down to what it should come down to: fit and vibe. The overall feel at at Davidson is noticeably different than Wake or W&M (unsurprising, given the size differences). Touring all three should create some separation one way or the other. |
The data doesn’t support that, especially based on who they have admitted from our school. I think you are confusing being serious or quirky with being smart. |
Our school is much different. YMMV. Don't generalize. And don't be a hater. |
Are you from Laurel? |
Huh? I’m not the poster insisting the kids look “smarter.” |
I'm also a different poster. Your post made no sense. And I don't disagree with them - if you talk to groups of kids at different schools, some will likely seem "smarter" than others. Not hard to figure out. |
This analysis placed Davidson 54th nationally by selectivity: https://wallethub.com/edu/e/college-rankings/40750 For comparison, Colgate placed 40th. |
If you talk to one or two students at each school, it definitely is insufficient to judge whether one student body is smarter than another. But let’s be real, the parents are actually exchanging no more than a sentence or two with any students. They said they students “seemed” smarter, going on vibes or some other nonsense. Davidson is the easiest admit of any of the schools being discussed from our private. |
