I don’t go to Chipotle. I don’t enjoy staring into the dead eyes of an underpaid worker scooping low quality Tex-Mex nor eating said Tex-Mex. My group will absolutely split up at In n Out and I think it’s actually helpful and efficient. We will get our napkins and condiments while one person orders and one person grabs a table. So when our order’s up we are ready to eat, clean up, and leave. |

I think it is really odd as well as flawed logic that people think it is acceptable to “reserve” a table to eat at while they order their food but that same act is unacceptable in a laundry mat.
I have a swimming pool club membership and it gets pretty crowded in the summer. Yet people reserve lounge chairs all the time by laying their beach towels, tote bags, etc. so that the loungers will be available for them to use when they need them. They would be angry if a stranger removed their stuff while they were not there. Yet why is it acceptable to move someone’s laundry basket from a folding table? Is it because DCUM believes those that wash their clothes in laundry mats are low~class peasants or something? |
Laundry doesn't get cold while you wait for a folding table. |
I never said you could reserve a table with a coat. If you have multiple people in your party, they can certainly grab a table while another orders. They are using the table to wait instead of milling around. |
A RESTAURANT. If you're talking about ordering your food from the kitchen, you're talking about a sit down restaurant, where people sit down. The example above was for a fast food place like Chipotle where your food is literally handed to you when you pay, so it's not coming from the kitchen. |
DP and I agree this is the better and more efficient system, but it's not what actually happens in real life. So... if you can't beat 'em you join 'em. I don't want to stand around with a mug of hot coffee (I ask for a ceramic if sitting in) and maybe a pastry while waiting for a table to open up. |
But you don't NEED a table until your food is ready. |
It's flawed logic to have the same procedure at a laundry mat, restaurant and swim club. Those are unrelated environments with unrelated actions. |
Thank you for explaining this so well. |
Not necessarily. I think the situations are similar because a.) they are all public places and b.) they all operate on a 1st come/1st serve basis. I think it is rude for people to reserve tables in fast food restaurants, laundromats, libraries, etc. even if these places are very crowded. The same goes for seating in swimming pool areas and even movie theaters too. I even find it annoying when someone stands in a parking spot in a crowded lot to reserve it, my Dad did this a lot growing up. I have also seen people “reserve” picnic tables at parks and even spots in the sand on the beach!! |

When me and my family visit the beach, we always leave our towels, blankets and coolers in a certain spot so after we are done in the water we can all dry off and sunbathe.
Everyone reserves space for later , it is life. |
That's wrong according to posters. You should take those things into the water. When you are done swimming, then you find a spot. |

People need to be polite to one another and respect each other and know when to step aside.
As a kid, I used to frequent arcades and there were certain video games that were more popular than others. Like Pac-Man for example. So while the game was in use, us kids would set our quarters on the game….kind of line them up to wait our turn to play. Same idea like the examples here illustrate. |
I am assuming you are being sarcastic here. People are always reserving spaces in public spaces, I live in a beach town and for next weekend (Memorial Day) my parents usually arrive at the beach/bay at like six in the morning to reserve a picnic table or barbecue pit even though we won’t even get around to eating until afternoon at the earliest. Why should this rule only apply at the beach? A laundromat is also a public place as are parks, libraries, restaurants and even public streets. Some of my neighbors get annoyed at people parking in front of their houses so they sometimes will place an orange cone by the curb so no one will park there! |

I sometimes go to the laundry mat to wash my comforters, duvets, etc. and I also do this.
However I tend to stand at the folding table so all the other patrons know that I intend on using it to fold my stuff.
