+1 Everybody does this. In a perfect world we would all wait but in reality nobody does. If you did you would be the sucker with no table. |
| You were wrong to think an empty table should go unused because you might eventually use it. Next time, just pull your clothes out of the dryer one by one and fold them and drop them into the basket. I used to do that occasionally if a table wasn't available and I had something I didn't want to get wrinkled. Sometimes I'd pay for the wash and fold service too, which is costly but nice. I only did that when I wasn't washing bedding because the charge for that is over the top. |
Thank you for the kind compliment. - OP Here |
| OP, you sound entitled. |
This. No reserving tables. |
| OP - If you had not reserved the spot, had finished drying your clothes, had seen all the tables in use but noticed there were empty baskets "reserving" an area, would you move the baskets? Probably...so now you know! Agree I give you props for open mindedness! |
I agree. What did you expect that person to do when it was her turn to fold the laundry, there was no space, and your baskets were just sitting there? |
Have you ever been to a restaurant before? Because that's not how that works. |
| Interesting. I think it's wrong to reserve a folding table with laundry baskets, but not wrong to reserve a table before ordering at a coffee shop. If I intend to have my coffee "for here" I'm not going to stay and order if I might not have a place to sit. |
Same The laundry and the cafe/counter service restaurant are different situations. You have options with the laundry, you can fold right out of the machine if you need to. When you have hands full of food plated for eating in and there is no where to go you have a problem. |
How what works? |
Restaurants with a waiter are different than fast food such as chipotle. You absolutely should not sit at a table (unless the place is only half full or something) and then wait 10 minutes for your friend to go through the line and order food for you guys and pay for it. If the place is full and people are standing around with trays looking for a table, and you're sitting at one scrolling your phone with no food even though your friend is still 8 people back in the line at chipotle, YTA. |
Please read my post. I'm talking about sitting BEFORE YOU HAVE ORDERED. while your partner is IN LINE AT CHIPOTLE, ORDERING FOR YOU GUYS. |
And if I'm standing there with my food and no table, and waiting for the entire time you're ordering while your kids sit there, not needing the table yet, staring at me, and I wait for a few min until a different person finishes eating and take THEIR table, at about the same time you arrive with your food- you see what could have happened? I could have sat down, started eating, and then like magic, another table would have been ready for you by the time you needed one. Those places run on the assumption that each party needs the table for approximately 10-15min. If you instead decide you're special and your kids are gonna sit there for 10min prior to you sitting down with all the food, then each table is being used for 25min instead, and suddenly if everyone does this, there arent enough tables during the busy lunch hour. Because half of them have people sitting at them who don't actually need them yet. I hope this helps. |
But no one would need to search for one if people followed societal norms and didn't put their coat down or their kids down at an empty table prior to getting in line to order. There would be available tables. |
