| Hardy, moved up two spots but still have a high number. |
| When do people expect waitlist movement for DCPS elementary spots (not pre-k)? |
| I've moved (for the better) 15 spots for MVC8. |
At most desirable schools, between the week after labor day and count day, with very little time to decide. They need to see who moves in bounds over the summer and who actually shows up. |
| Just moved up 10 spots in one day for PK4 and got an offer today. |
Where? |
Man, that’s The Dream. Congrats! -been sitting at #10 at our dream school since match day with no movement. |
DP How many slots do schools REALLY leave for IB students after, say, Aug 15? That’s a little over a week before school starts. I can’t imagine a ton of IB kids are really registering for the first time the day before school starts, or sheesh, just showing up on day 1? I bet there’s a lot of movement that’s starts August 12 when teachers start returning and the school starts humming. That being said, yes, I also assume there’s a lot of movement in the fall, but that’s because they have to call so many people to fill one seat after school starts, not because there’s actually a ton of movement. And I think there is a fair amount of movement happening now until early June. About half my numbers have moved about five spaces each in the past week or so. |
It depends on their historical experience. DCPS enrollment team does modeling for every school and they are one of the parts of downtown that is pretty good at their job. |
In my experience as an LSAT member at two EOTP DCPS, there are indeed a lot of IB families who show up the first day, the first week, the first month. Back when immigration was still a thing, there was also a bubble of new enrollments in November. |
Yes. At our EOTP DCPS this was the norm. Even for preschool. I think it was 2015 when the staff realized they wouldn't be able to take all walk-ins for preschool and they started calling all current families who they knew had a rising pk3 to make sure they didn't get shut out. Because it had never been a problem before, so the parents just didn't realize. |
Wanted to update that we are now #1 and will be declining if contacted, hopefully that helps someone. |
Wow, it’s only been 2 weeks and Walls has already gone thru 14 spots on the waitlist. Compare this to last year when they did not past 14 until after August. The waitlist is definitely going to go much deeper this year. |
| Why doesn't DCPS push out an email asking people who have accepted elsewhere to drop their waitlist spots?? It would make things so much easier for everyone. |
People are automatically dropped from waitlists if they enroll at a school they ranked higher. So if people are still on a waitlist it's because they want to be. |
