What do your teen girls eat for breakfast?

Made Good bar or mini muffins if they eat anything at all. On weekends they usually have eggs and toast.

She makes herself a bowl of Japanese soba noodles (not instant ramen), with sardines and little side pickles. Or my husband makes her an egg with toast. Or various other things, like yogurt with fruit. It's so nice that I don't have to worry about her.

Hopefully she’s brushing her teeth after that smelly meal!

It doesn't smell at all. She does brush her teeth. And you're so racist. You think your food doesn't smell?

They don’t eat breakfast. My oldest dd is a full time ballet student in NYC. She also takes open classes in all different genres at the well known dance studio. Her roommate and friends will go to a lunch place nearby and none of them are thinking about calories.

no one who "isn't thinking about calories" skips breakfast.

Younger one is dairy free and eats like an instagram health influencer lol
-coconut yogurt with berries , chia seeds and granola
-oatmeal with peanut butter and banana
If really rushed - English muffin or toast with peanut butter. She is 15 and does all this herself and packs lunch too.

Older one just could take or leave food most of the time and would probably just drink iced Starbucks latte until lunch otherwise so I make it for her - usually a fried egg on toast bc she can eat on the go

I make my 18 year breakfast and she eats it, but it left to her own devices wouldn’t bother. She is naturally thin and just can’t be bothered to make herself food in the morning - it’s not about calories for all kids. Dance does encourage that though unfortunately so you are probably not wrong

Nothing. She is just not hungry till later in the day.

OK, so it sounds like everyone KNOWS that kids shouldn't eat cereal, bagels, donuts, and all these sugary carbs, but noone wants to engage in that fight...so here's an idea. Don't buy the SH-IT and bring it into your house. It's garbage and you know it.

What? We buy cereal and bagels. They are teens. They need the energy. A donut here and there won’t kill them. You sound fun.

I can dance with my shirt on

Many cereals and bagels aren't sugary. It sounds like you're upset that other people don't have your eating disorder and aren't working to create your type of eating disorder in their daughters.

Kids need carbs. Teenagers, especially ones who are still growing or who are physically active, need a lot of carbs. In addition, when it comes to breakfast perfect is definitely the enemy of good. A kid who eats a bagel with cream cheese or a bowl of cheerios in the morning is going to be less likely to raid the vending machine, be distracted by hunger in the classroom, drop out of sports because of lack of exercise, or develop an unhealthy relationship with food.

I don’t buy donuts and sugary cereal for the house. But there is nothing wrong with a bowl of plain Cheerios or a homemade bagel. We make a lot of bread in my house: bagels, baguettes, sourdough, flat breads. Rest assured teens are getting donuts at plenty of sugar at school.

Why would you think that? Many people don't get hungry till later.

+1 my house is full of various breads and less sugary cereals. We all eat them.

My 15 year old won't eat in the morning. She says if she eats, her stomach hurts at school. She even skips lunch sometimes. (gastro appointment booked!!) It's worse when she's on her period. Evenings and weekends she eats well. Healthy, all food groups, lots of treats too. So weird!
