Common at many universities for CS. UMCP switched CS Dept to be its own separate direct admission to handle the demand. Transferring later from another major to CS is nearly impossible at UMCP. At VT and several other universities with engineering programs, but not at all universities with engineering programs, one is admitted as a general engineering student and there are limits on who can pursue some specific engineering majors. If one wants an in-demand engineering major, it is competitive to be allowed to declare that major. Such programs are inherently competitive, not collaborative, simply because it is a zero sum game. |
$96k is a lot to spend on any college, most of which also have impacted programs. Pomona offers 48 different majors; cognitive science is just one of them. In other words, this is a both a very minor problem at Pomona and a common problem among all colleges. Yet you've written this post (and many others like it) for the purpose of showing that Pomona is especially flawed. It's rhetorical nonsense, and you know it. I don't know what your hang up is about Pomona, but it's seriously weird. Like, WTF-this-lady-genuinely-needs-therapy weird. (Same thing for the other weirdos on DCUM who anonymously bash particular schools.) Move on with your life. You'll feel better, and the world will be a better place for it. |
| Few things are running smoothly in California these days. At least Pomona hasn’t burned down. |
Name another school with a cognitive science lottery then. It’s concerning a program this small can’t even get it together. |
| Did someone get rejected from Pomona? There are an awful lot of negative posts for a tiny college where 2/3rds of the students don't even submit an SAT score. |
