Never heard of admits to Stanford. Do kids from the east coast just don't apply or no one ever gets in?

Why are you gasping and why do you feel the need to write it out? Your breathing problems aren’t relevant.

There’s (at least) one at Robinson this year.

I really wanted to go but the more I learned as an adult it sounds awful. In the middle of nowhere.

?? Palo Alto is the middle of nowhere? It is a city of 70k people sandwiched between SF and San Jose and surrounded by the some of the wealthiest areas in the world and responsible for an outsized portion of the world's economy. Much more cosmopolitan than Charlottesville, Durham or many of the other places DCUM is obsessed by . . .

"The Farm" is not cosmopolitan and college kids don't want to hang in a stuffy rich suburb

Our DC charter friend got in. No hooks, just all around excellent and well rounded.

Congrats to those kids and the school! Which charter?

DP, but I believe it's DCI.

You must be public school OP, lots of kids from area privates go to Stanford.

I personally know two. One from public and one from private. No hooks but both really stand out kids. Both didn’t go there and picked other equally impressive schools.

There are lots of kids from this area headed to Stanford!! You must not look hard enough or you must be new here.

That being said... there are even two girls from the area committed there thru soccer!

Kids from our FCPS public go to Stanford regularly.

Applied RD, no hooks, from East Coast and was accepted. It’s possible!

Sure, sure. No hook. Hahahahaha.

That you consider it unfathomable is a sad commentary on the caliber of students with whom you are familiar.

My son got in in 2023. Arlington public school, 1580, 4.0UW, white, UMC, no hooks. He's just a really smart kid with some interesting interests. When he got accepted, the woman who read his essay commented on it. We were shocked, but it does happen.

Recruited athletes get in. Silly that they want to fill the class with field hockey, tennis and water polo players. But they do. And the admissions standards are significantly reduced for them.
