Never heard of admits to Stanford. Do kids from the east coast just don't apply or no one ever gets in?

I've personally known multiple accepts (family friends, not just from our school) into HYP, MIT, Duke, every top 10, except never hear of anyone to Stanford. Are acceptance really that rare or is it bc I'm in the east coast?

Probably just coincidence I know of at least 2 recent Stanford admits off of the top of my head.

Applied RD, no hooks, from East Coast and was accepted. It’s possible!

Does your school (private?) tend to send kids to Stanford? SCEA or RD? Non-STEM?

DD in this year. REA, legacy, east coast, no other hooks.

One kid from RMIB is in this year- at least! I just know about the one.

My kid's private has sent 1-2 to Stanford every year. These kids have multiple hooks.

My child was a recruited athlete at Stanford. He met several unhooked kids from this area when he was there. Most of the people who our HS sends (a couple every other year or so) are legacies.

There are two from WJ this year.

Among my kid's friends - CS or other STEM, UMD or DMV schools - most went to East Coast. This was the kids who were in HS during COVID and decided that they don't want to be stuck far away from home if there is an emergency.

Also, they don't want to pay big money for name brand in this day and age, or have the cost of travel, being away from home, loneliness. Most paid peanuts at state colleges, had a great time, got paying internships and jobs in hand and saved $$$ money.

I know 2 from two different DC schools in the last 3 years.

Private (boarding school). All “top” colleges are well represented come admission time, including Stanford. In this specific case (not this cycle, but relatively recent), RD and non-STEM but social science where Stanford also excels.

A girl from Fairfax HS is a freshman there. She is a nationally acclaimed soccer standout (as well as smart as hell and a very nice kid), though.
