I don't know who you think you're speaking for, but why do you think no one cares? Alums definitely care. I know some who stopped donating after Ryan was dumped.

I know some who gave a lot more after he was gone. Is this evidence, or some anecdote bassed on the two people you know who stopped donating?

You said no one cares. In your MAGA world that might be true. But not true at all in the larger world.

Are you aware UVa’s peer review score in US News rankings could take a big hit thanks to this mess? What star faculty or admins would want to come to UVa now? Do you care or are you just content to live in 1980?

Why do you say MAGA? This isn't a MAGA issue. Show me how this appointment is MAGA. I'm not MAGA. I'm on grounds and know a lot of the faculty. They are not MAGA. Beardsley is not MAGA, he's apolitical. No one on the former Board of Visitors was MAGA.

Not everything is political. Not everything is MAGA. Please use some discernment in your comments. Don't you notice that your heckling is ignored?

DP. You are completely disconnected from reality.

Cuccinelli ring a bell?

They were a bunch of Youngkin/Trump supporters (MAGA):

New president did a great job at Darden. Great fundraiser, apolitical, brought great energy, and increased Darden's position in national rankings. So he didn't earn a Ph.D. by dissecting the allegory in Chaucer's early poems?

If he's the best person for the job, then why are you so afraid of him going through the usual vetting process?

Not afraid at all. But he already has the job. No need to relitigate the case just to appease a segment of faculty who won't be happy until Jim Ryan returns. He was an outstanding choice for UVA President.

He should be vetted per university tradition.

Jim Ryan is not going to return. But we also need a transparent fair vetting process for our presidents, not a rushed politically driven one.

Is Beardsley the worst we could have? no. Is he the best person for the job? I have no idea. Process matters for that.

Exactly.

Beardsley is the result of a rushed, politically-motivated appointment; he's not a well-vetted candidate.

Did you read the article? 191 faculty cared enough to sign a letter. That does not sound like no ones cares. It's the opposite!

You tried to make this same point on the political thread about Beardsley supposedly having insufficient degrees (he has four). Tgat thread, too, should have been posted in the politics forum bit here. The letter is old news. Name one school where the faculty doesn’t behave like that. Harvard faculty went batshit for Claudine Gay, too, but were wrong.

Besides, what the faculty thinks is irrelevant. They don’t make the decision: The Board of Visitors does.

And the Cavalier is a student newspaper and should be taken as such.

You don’t think faculty support is important at a University ??

They produce the institution’s work product, you Bozo.

Ah, I see the name-calling has started so you know you have lost the argument. No, only 192 out of more than 1,269 faculty signed that document. There is no wide sweeping support for Ryan. It’s over.

And for the record, Beardsley is apolitical, which is well known and you could have learned by googling. If you continue this slander I will report you, this thread, and the other one started by political troublemakers. This thread belongs in politics, not here.

(And, by the way, those faculty members don’t l get to produce that “work-product” without the approval of the President and the Board. You have that reversed. And no academic uses the word “work product”. )

so you don't think a state univ president should be removed for political reasons?

Funny how the PP never responded to this question.

It's only OK when it benefits MAGAs.

Here’s more on his lightweight “doctorate”

https://augustafreepress.com/news/james-finklestein-when-the-presidents-doctorate-doesnt-match-the-institutions-mission/

TLDR is that even UVAs similar degree takes twice the time to complete and Ed.D.s in general are lightweight (except Columbia/Harvard)

Interesting that Harvard stopped offering any Ed.D. And now does PhD or El.LD or some other weird combo of letters. Columbia Teachers College EdD is their PhD. Penn has exec EdD, regular EdD, and PhD. Any EdD should be very upfront with what their degree is, given the confusion.

Which would make him a more viable candidate.

This is insane. The council determined the hiring approach, not Beardsley. He doesn't get to decide that they have to do another layer of vetting.

Faculty clutching pearls. Who cares if his "Doctorate" was lightweight. Not asking him to teach Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium Modeling or Nonlinear Dynamics. His job is to be the face of the university, raise funds, manage a high-performing team, hit budget goals, and raise the profile of the university. He did all of that at Darden. And he is quite qualified to do that for the university as a whole.

So you acknowledge the hiring approach was politically motivated and abnormal?

Why don’t you ask the conservatives that spent years criticizing Dr. Biden’s EdD?

You claim no one on the former Board of Visitors was MAGA, huh? Happy to remind you since you're struggling with your memory. Just google Bert Ellis. Hope this helps!
