Did you read the article? 191 faculty cared enough to sign a letter. That does not sound like no ones cares. It's the opposite!

You tried to make this same point on the political thread about Beardsley supposedly having insufficient degrees (he has four). Tgat thread, too, should have been posted in the politics forum bit here. The letter is old news. Name one school where the faculty doesn’t behave like that. Harvard faculty went batshit for Claudine Gay, too, but were wrong.

Besides, what the faculty thinks is irrelevant. They don’t make the decision: The Board of Visitors does.

And the Cavalier is a student newspaper and should be taken as such.

You don’t think faculty support is important at a University ??

They produce the institution’s work product, you Bozo.

Ah, I see the name-calling has started so you know you have lost the argument. No, only 192 out of more than 1,269 faculty signed that document. There is no wide sweeping support for Ryan. It’s over.

And for the record, Beardsley is apolitical, which is well known and you could have learned by googling. If you continue this slander I will report you, this thread, and the other one started by political troublemakers. This thread belongs in politics, not here.

(And, by the way, those faculty members don’t l get to produce that “work-product” without the approval of the President and the Board. You have that reversed. And no academic uses the word “work product”. )

Why did the Jefferson Council people want him to have the job?

Jefferson Council didn’t elect him - the Board of Visitors did. If you want to read the Council’s many concerns re Ryan going back over two years simply go to its website and start reading.

You want us to believe “the Council” pushed Ryan out and than had nothing to do with his replacement? Why did Youngkin’s MAGA board pick Beardsley?

+1

People obviously care about the unethical selection process.

Which would make him a more viable candidate.

I agree! This flawed process taints him. Be a stand up go and go through the regular review process.

+1

If he’s a great candidate he’ll be selected.

Beardsley could be a perfectly good president. He also could have waited a month and gone through a proper search and interview. Because he took the opportunity presented in a rushed and opaque “search” people have the right to be critical. DP

Yes, he should have done this from the start.

Not to pp but report for slander lol! I’m the op and this is about the presidency of a major university. This is the colleges and university forum. I don’t care if he’s apolitical if there were irregularities with his appointment, or he doesn’t have the usual vetting.

so you don't think a state univ president should be removed for political reasons?

Faculty would complain about ANY candidate. You can please all the people none of the time.

New president did a great job at Darden. Great fundraiser, apolitical, brought great energy, and increased Darden's position in national rankings. So he didn't earn a Ph.D. by dissecting the allegory in Chaucer's early poems?

I don't know who you think you're speaking for, but why do you think no one cares? Alums definitely care. I know some who stopped donating after Ryan was dumped.

If he's the best person for the job, then why are you so afraid of him going through the usual vetting process?

This. They have no defense or rebuttal for this claim.
