I guess some posters think being an English major is the way to go, as if AI can't replace writers faster than it can replace software programmers.

Nah they study English because they have been told that's one of the top subjects for those interested to go into pre-med. And because they don't know what else to study with the fear of ai

Can you please share this X post?

Are you talking about private HS? Your comment really doesn’t make much sense.

BTW everyone…all these AI companies getting billions in funding as well as all the Y Combinator companies getting funded as we speak are like 90% founded by either CS majors or kids with extensive CS backgrounds.

It’s just flinging shit against a wall and seeing if something sticks. The funding involved is peanuts. Think of these things as senior projects.

Seriously?!! Are you under a rock?? Good grief! Get off of DCUM and go read what's going on with AI and coding jobs. There isn't a news or media (incl social) outlet that isn't covering this topic.

Did you get rejected from a top CS program or something? CS students at kid's school getting internships and jobs galore.

I hire SWEs at a major tech company, very major tech company. Internships are still flowing and highly competitive but return offers are going way down. First few years are also becoming much harder and many more will get weeded out. CS will still be great for the best but the average employee is going to suffer.

There are many successful Y Combinator alum companies…many accepted into the program end up receiving seed and VC funding at the end of the program.

Not really sure you have a point. All tech companies start with an angel/seed round.

I will turn the question around…what will all the humanities and non-STEM majors do?

If every job is going to want AI experts and CS kids are at the leading edge of using AI tools…how will all the kids who can’t use AI at an expert level manage to get a professional job?

I’m a recruiter. We posted a job in IT. We had 200 applicants in 36 hours. It’s not good out there.

How many were basically bot applicants and/or people not remotely qualified?

The online job application process is horribly broken.

Go into law enforcement that pays overtime. It’s as AI proof as you get right now.
