Yamil Hernandez, a Gaithersburg City Council member, is in favor of a modified H. Gaithersburg City Council and the Crown community are mostly concerned with local kids going to the local high school rather than them being bussed out of the way. If a holding school must be part of the plan, then the Gaithersburg / Crown side supports H over the other 3 holding school options. |
They're most likely moving forward with the 6 region model. Already built into the budget and operations like summer school 2026. But wait, BOE hasn't voted on it yet... |

| Ok. This whole preamble from Taylor is about how he can't please everybody. Duh. We know that. |
|
Wow. Wootton lost. Holy crap. |
|
"My recommendation starts with the assumption of relocating Thomas S. Wootton High School to
the Crown Farm site for the 2027-2028 school year. This allows us to address facility concerns at Thomas S. Wootton HS current site for students and staff by relocating them to a brand new building. It minimizes the costs and additional resources needed to operate an additional high school in the county given updated student enrollment data trends and limited resources. The current site on Wootton Parkway will be used as a holding site for schools to allow for major construction projects as well as smaller projects such as roof replacements or Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) projects that usually occur over multiple phases, potentially accelerating secondary capital projects. This recommendation supports striving to create a diverse student body in this region by increasing the percentage of resident students in 2025-2026 who participate in the Free and Reduced Priced Meals Program (FARMS) at Thomas S. Wootton High School @ Crown Farm and Robert Frost Middle School. It also supports striving to create a diverse student body in this region by increasing the percentage of resident students in 2025-2026 who are identified as Emergent Multilingual Learners (EML) at Thomas S. Wootton High School @ Crown Farm and Robert Frost Middle School. It offers stability of school assignment over time as 5 of the 6 elementary schools currently assigned to Thomas S. Wootton High School will continue to articulate to Thomas S. Wootton High School @ Crown Farm. It increases the number of resident students in 2025-2026 who are within the identified nontransported area from 551 students at the current site to 718 at Thomas S. Wootton High School @ Crown Farm. The geographic proximity will allow for more students to follow recommended walking routes and reduce the impact on student transportation resources for the school system. " |
| JUST GET TO THE POINT, TAYLOR! |
