Thurs Feb 5: Board Work Session

I thought that public testimonies had to be submitted in advance so that the BOE and the public could avoid surprises and ask the testifying person questions. If this is the case, why isn’t Dr. Taylor expected to do the same? What does he have to hide?

Obviously, folks can prepare better questions if they can see the recommendation ahead of time and digest it. This way they can quietly address questions privately.

True but this is the first round with future meetings and chances and not a final vote. If it was a final vote that would be different.

Gmafb. This is a public meeting for which elected officials should be able to prepare questions.

Taylor is intentionally preventing them from being able to meaningfully prepare. It is disrespectful to the BOE and to the public.

Is that why questions often aren't asked?

In some ways Taylor is probably trying to protect the BOE members because if the public can't see the recommendation they can't demand they ask specific questions.

From the past BOE meeting discussions on the regional model plan (remember the slides were always submitted a few hours before the meeting or sometimes after the meeting), I'm confident that BOE members should have received the materials at least on the night before. They intentionally delayed to publish that so to containerize furious discussion as much as they can.

As I said before on this platform, deals had been reached way before the public procedures.

Every superintendent we've ever had has been excoriated on this board.

Is it the same people who look for fault in every leader? Are they different people? (People who loved the last super are criticizing this one?). Are they Russian bots who are just looking to sow conflict?

This is a serious question. My best guess is that it's Moco residents who like to try to undermine anyone in authority. But I'm genuinely curious. I understand people speaking strongly about policies and decisions. But the amount of personal animosity is confusing to me. For the most part, these are all folks who are doing their best to make the system better under an avalanche of challenges. It's possible to strongly disagree with their decisions without making personal insults and attacks.

Feel free to respond to the people who are making "personal insults". Asking.the Superintendent and BOE to function in a transparent manner is not a personal attack.

You don't have to submit your public testimony in advance to testify. It is, however, recommended.

If every superintendent has been "excoriated" as you claim, maybe the problem is not us but rather the system that is MCPS? Have you thought about that?

Also, why do you feel the need to carry water for Taylor?
