Thursday on time?

I'm the PP who suggested that it could be because moving them back one hour could put buses into the heart of rush hour, so 2-hour delays are used to help with that.

I am going to GUESS on time.

I'm going to guess a delay to make sure bus drivers feel safe picking up middle schoolers. With the melting today there will be black ice and kids waiting on dark roads before 6 am when its still dark.

They could have solved that problem already with a delayed middle school start time.

I agree there should be a delay for the pedestrians to be safe, who you can't see behind the ice banks.

So the elementary schoolers could be the ones out walking to school or the bus on the ice before daybreak?

The core issue is the snow makes it unsafe to go in the dark and FCPS needs to reuse buses.

We are one of the earliest starting ES and it’s light out an hour before school starts.

They can’t ONLY delay MS though, because ES bus runs would still be taking place.

That poster I was quoting was saying the issue would have been solved if they fixed middle school start times to begin with. I'm also at an early start elementary school, we would have moved to the earliest slot if they flipped start times around and my kids would have been the ones slipping on the ice trying to get to the bus in the dark.

I love 2 hour delays! Kids are so much more relaxed and rested!

Do we think there’s any way they would cancel the 3 hour early releases, at least this month and next, due to the disruptions to the schedule?

Isn’t that planning time for teachers? If so, no, you can’t remove it.

They won’t consider it unless they run out of snow days. And they’d target the May/April dates first for planning purposes.

We need to lobby for permanent 5-hour school days. My children are more rested and ready to learn. It's ridiculous having a 5-year-old trudge through 7 hours of school...

I am surprised we are having delays. What will happen next week? The snow piles won’t be gone although as the week goes on the temps should help.

I'm focused on emailing whoever will listen about getting rid of the three hour release days. But I doubt anyone will listen.
