Thursday on time?

The biggest thing to watch now is the Friday storm.

From Capital Weather Gang:

* Snow showers and very strong winds expected with potent front Friday into Saturday *
A powerful cold front, set to arrive Friday afternoon and evening, will bring the possibility of snow showers before frigid air returns to the region. And very strong winds, possibly intense enough to trigger power outages, will surge into the area in its wake.
The front’s passage, subject to refinement, will be between 1 and 10 p.m. Friday. The accompanying snow showers, while hit or miss, could briefly be heavy, especially northwest of the Beltway. Some spots could pick up a quick coating.
But the wind will probably be the bigger story. After the front passes, gusts of at least 40 mph are probable late Friday night into Saturday, and could near 50 mph. The National Weather Service says it probably will issue wind advisories and warnings for parts of the area.
The wind “when combined with rapidly falling temperatures will result in dangerously cold wind chills Saturday into Sunday,” the Weather Service wrote in a chat channel for media.

Why?
I doubt snow showers Friday night will affect any decision making for FCPS, unless you are looking at Saturday activitites.

As it gets closer, if heavy snow is predicted for 1:00 pm Friday, it puts all the schools in a tough position. Hopefully the forecast will tighten more on the evening time frame as opposed to the mid-afternoon.

Why would a Friday afternoon schedule impact have anything to do with a 2 hour delay for Thursday?

I think they are skipping ahead to Friday

They were probably just waiting to decide. MCPS just called a full day minutes ago, so FCPS will probably call it in a few minutes as well.

Agreed - I don't want my middle schooler walking in the street when it's dark.

Can't individual parents make this choice and send them late and the school's excuse the absence? We are upsetting the entire school system for 2 grades in limited pockets of the county....

Staff has not received any emails or announcements?

Arlington and Montgomery counties are starting on time tomorrow, somI guess we will, too.

The snow is definitely melting but are the majority of the bus stops clear? I hope none of the MS kids get hit by a bus or car tomorrow.

Ha! No, parents usually find out before staff and teachers do.

It’s not always true, but in the past, I have found out important news only because my students’ parents texted them about it.

I guess we’re on time since no update is posted. The communications department for FCPS needs to be fired.

I’m sure they can. That doesn’t eliminate the possibility that a middle school kid standing in the road in the dark gets hit by a bus. But Reid won’t give a damn until that actually happens… and then it will be too late.

They absolutely do. They are dangerously incompetent.
