Cedar Lane Principal was actively interviewing for other HS jobs— at least 2 in FCPS— so it’s at least a mutual departure.

We don't really know that. The dad said he talked to the family liaison. That is really all we know.

We need to know if there was an investigation to determine if the current process was followed and if that process needs to be updated. That is a failure IMO of the principal and the district. There should have been an independent follow up with a report. Anything less is unacceptable.

Nothing was ever mentioned about it again in the news which is a sign it was looked into and nothing was found to substantiate his claim. I remember saying back then his statements were incredibly vague and tried to shift all the blame to the school when the crime happened at 9 pm off school property. I think he called the school at some point to discuss his worries but at no point do I believe it was ever as explicit as “my son is getting active death threats from this student at your school” and they did nothing. I need to go look up if they ever said if the person who shot him was even a Herndon high student.

According to the dad, the victim received death threats from classmates at Herndon High. Were they the ones that killed him? We don’t know because the alleged killers were juvenile and that info wasn’t reported. But we do have a credible claim that death threats were happening at the school.

Unlike you, I don’t dismiss the victim’s father’s account because it doesn’t fit my narrative. If what he said is true, which could be corroborated pretty easily with phone records, then someone should be held accountable at the school for the inaction. This transfer is possibly Fcps’s attempt to do that.

That death threats were happening at the school and there are credible allegations that the school ignored them and the kid was ultimately killed is a real problem. That it happened in my school district is unacceptable to me, and if I were in that pyramid my number one priority would be making sure that school is safe for all students, regardless of skin color. If the principal’s transfer is related to that course correction it is a positive step, but the school really needs a big shake up.

I’m really surprised that this has been swept under the rug and is not a bigger story. It’s really a scandal hiding in plain sight.

Reid and the School Board always try to sweep things under the rug. There is no one to make them accountable. Checks and balances do not exist for FCPS’ leadership, since they hold complete control.

This murder is no exception.

The murder happened outside of school. We do not know what the dad told the liaison. We do not know if he named names. We do not know how long a conversation he had with the liaison. We do not know if the liaison told the principal. We do not know if the murderer was a Herndon student.

The only thing we know is what the dad told the reporter. We do not know what he told the police.

There should be follow up with the school community. Ditto a similar, non-fatal incident involving ms and hs students by the library. And then behind South Lakes. All could be linked as they happened in quick succession.

The truth is FCPS knows more than it is willing to admit. Given my experiences at HHS, I 100% believe that the administration failed to do its part to prevent murder.

Someone was arrested, they are a minor, and so you can't find their name but the case is ongoing it seems and they haven't gone to trial. How did Reid "sweep" that under the rug?

Well, for starters, the email announcing the murder made it seem like a suicide. And since then, we’ve heard nothing. Nothing about ongoing threats and nothing about the incident.

This is a police matter. I agree that the information has been extremely sketchy. I understand that the suspect is a juvenile, but they can release information without releasing his identify.

I am no fan of the leadership in FCPS and know nothing about the principal. However, the interview with the dad and the reporter was also vague.
I feel very sorry for the family--but what is up with the landlord making them move?
What is up with not being sure your child is safe?

Why did he not go to the police? This was not a school issue.

School personnel are MANDATOEG reporters. When they don’t report (or don’t follow through on calls), it is a crime.

Because all of the students attended Herndon and parent (who trusted the professional people) probably thought he would get some help from administration, SRO, school counseling...anyone. Sadly, a lot of hispanic parents are very reluctant to involve police.

A death threat is not someone saying they are going to beat you up after school. This is a law enforcement issue. But, you know that.

Tell me: if your child had a death threat who would you go to first?

Honestly? I would go to school to get their take on the situation first before I would go around accusing someone with that level of threat.
