So sad. She was one of my favorite actresses of all time. A true comic genius with a unique charisma.

Came to say the same thing. So many women in their 60s and 70s dying too young of cancers. But we don't know if she had cancer or not.

Actually cancer survival rates are pretty good.

My husband died within 6 months of diagnosis. No earlier symptoms and they tried treatment. It varies.

That photo makes her look like she had cancer, but the family statement says a short illness. Probably cancer detected late.

I loved her most in:
Beetlejuice
A Mighty Wind (she really stole the show)
Home Alone
Best in Show.

A short illness is the default for lots of things:

Fast moving cancer

Late detected cancer

Private battle

Anything, really.

I know women who worked up until they dropped dead from cancer, and nobody knew because they never disclosed.

+1. Cousin died in four months of stomach cancer. Super fit and was planning to retire at the end of the year at 65 and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Survival rates are based on living 5 years from detection. If you die 5 years and 1 day it still counts as survival.

My friend was processing payroll in the hospital while dying from cancer. Her boss/CEO was SHOCKED 2 days later to learn she had died. She didn’t tell anyone.

I've made it 11 years. Modern meds are amazing, but I realize some forms are more aggressive .
