DP In most cases? In most cases interviews don't matter. They may be a gut check to make sure that the student lines up with the resume but I don't think an interview can get you in if the committee wasn't already inclined to admit you. |
True, but isn't that a bad sign particularly at Yale if 90% of admitted applicants did get an interview? |
DC did Yale interview last week. Had only one other interview (Dartmouth). |
| any chance of getting into Duke if kid doesn't get an interview? |
Google is free people. This is directly from Duke's website: "not receiving an interview will not affect your chances of admission." Clear as day. |
| Only Yale prescreens interviews. An interview means you're borderline and very much in the running. None means you were either an obvious admit/deny. |
So does that mean if DD "messed" up on her Yale interview, she has no chance of admission? |
| Are Princeton interviews known to be difficult and trickier? |
Depends what the "mess up" is. But generally, they can (mostly) only help your DD's chances as long as she isn't a droid. |
No, they're as informal and conversational as other schools. Interviews really are geared towards boosting alumni engagement and applicant interest. |
Yes, unfortunately this! A series of unfortunate events that made her clam up and answered in awkward one-sentence responses.. Her interview ended early, too. She said she didn't say anything legally or morally questionable, but came off as lacking personality/passion and not her usual friendly self. |
| My DC hasn't heard back from Duke. What does this mean? |
They might get one soon, might not. Most interviews don't add much to an application anyway. |
| Anyone still getting interviews? |
