They deleted the old Snowstorm post. Post here instead.

Why are the plows worse this storm? There are so many that got plowed in by the plows. Is the type of snow worse for plowing? I don’t recall 2 feet of snow plowing us in before.

Don't electric busses stop working when it gets cold?

And if they can mange to turn on the electric busses in cold weather, they have to run them with the heaters off so the battery doesn't drain and stop the bus fr tunning?

They lose some range, but they start up and run much better than the diesel busses do. I think they all still have plenty of range for urban areas like ours. It's only a concern for long bus routes in rural areas.

I cannot believe that ele tric busses are better than normal diesel busses in cold weather

They can't run both the heater and tge engine in cold weather

From where are you getting this info?

Those days were a waste and didn’t count towards school days anyway. No one wants online classes again.

They count as days now.

They do, but they also have extra hours already built in that are counted.

A pivot to online class wouldn’t be very easy to do. Our school didn’t even send laptops home.

That happens all the time. Shovel to the left to lessen the impact, but where else is the snow from the middle of the road going to go?

Prior thread was moved to the WEATHER forum and is still open.

I don't know what to tell you. Maybe get your facts from a real source instead of Facebook. Electric are superior in all but cost and long distance trips. They are vastly superior in city driving and stop and go, like a bus route.

DP. They also cost 4 times as much.

They are also cheaper to maintain and operate over their lifespan.

A $17 million federal grant was used to buy 42 of them. I don’t know if any have been purchased since.

A pretty big school is right behind us and the main road in is a few doors down, our road is a sheet of ice in the middle and is only one lane because it hasn't been plowed yet. None of my neighbors have cleared their sidewalks.

No FCPS until the high temp hits 40 and allows enough melting for major clearing. NBD, the try-hards will still do their homework and the rest won't. The bigger impact is the disruption to the sports schedules. There are games that won't be made up.

Good news the weekend storm is unlikely maybe 1-2 inches... if we lucky they are going back to school on Monday.

Latest tracking has it shifting north like the last storm

I guess technically you are correct since….get this…electric buses don’t have an engine.

I can’t say I blame them.

Anyone who needs schools open quickly. You are welcome to go rent a skidsteer to clean the 5 inches of solid ice off of the sidewalks and parking lots. Also you can go rent a mini skidsteer!! With this you will be able to break up the 5 inches of ice on your neighborhood sidewalks!! We know how you and all your neighbors hate ICE! Get it cleared from your neighborhood today!!

And no. Elementary kids will not be walking down Braddock Rd in traffic so you can have daycare!!

This storm is just more evidence that the school calendar is screwed up. There should be minimal holidays before the end of the year because of weather in Jan/Feb. Instead, we have absurdly many days off in the Fall and then take even more days off due to weather. Meanwhile, the AP tests don't move and we're missing key instruction time.

Make hay while the sun shines.

Is there any legitimate chance they could open Wednesday?

Definitely, it can't stay this cold for that long, as long as there isn't too much new snow this weekend I think Wednesday sounds right for a reopening.
