If your kid is not white do you make them carry identification around with them?

Through the quirks of genetics I have one kid with much darker skin and and hair than the other. I worry about the first and not about the latter at the moment. They aren’t carrying ID but I have been thinking about having a conversation about what to do if someone tells them they are ICE and tries to detain them.

We live in an affluent area. I did tell my kids to have a photo of their passport just in case. I’m pretty sure they would say they were born here with their perfect American accents and say their parents were also American citizens. They can only speak English.

A bunch of hockey moms chased off ICE in Edina this week. If you think living in an affluent area means anything you are clueless.

A fun little coda to this story is that the guy they claimed to be looking for has been in prison. Since 2024. The bumbling stupidity combined with their reflexive resort to immediate violence is dangerous to everyone.
