If your kid is not white do you make them carry identification around with them?

For my 16 year old who is driving now, he carries his passport card in his wallet.

For my 13 year old who is mostly just around our neighborhood, she doesn't carry anything. The reality is we don't live in a neighborhood with a large hispanic population, so the racist thugs are less likely to come here, so I've decided the risk-reward for her is to keep her documents safely at home.

We are Asian American. I would not worry about this at all for my American born kids. I’m fairly certain if a police officer or ICE agent approached my kid, they would be obviously American.

I’m also not worried at all about myself.

We got passport cards for our kids in case my immigrant husband was detained. We wanted to make sure there was immediate proof they were citizens before they all got whisked off to Texas or Louisiana.

They shot a white woman through the temple but I applaud your optimism.

I am not an idiot. If they picked us up and spoke to us, we would be obviously American.

+1. Sends the wrong message to the child.

We actually don't have anything for her other than her passport but obviously I would not feel comfortable with her just bringing that around with her to her friends houses and 711. What should we get? Some sort of modified license? A copy of her birth certificate?

So only visible minorities should carry ID?

We are Asian American and we all carry passport cards at all times.so many instances where ice detained Asian us citizens. Recently there are reports of ice asking “where are the Asians living in your neighborhood?”
I’d rather do without the trauma, thank you.

Nope. We’re Latino. Not changing anything and not stressing our kids over it.

We live in an affluent area. I did tell my kids to have a photo of their passport just in case. I’m pretty sure they would say they were born here with their perfect American accents and say their parents were also American citizens. They can only speak English.

Just going to leave this here for all you who naively thinks ICE cares about anything other than hitting their quotas
