FCPS Mistake: Publishes Completely Erroneous National Merit Commended Students missing several High Schools

Honestly, I don't understand the silver and bronze medals, they didn't win. The point of athletic competition is to work your hardest because you want to win. Gold medalists are the ones that are most likely to get commercial deals and big payouts. The silver and bronze medalists get a nice trophy but it probably serves more as a reminder of not winning.

Most people follow the gold medal count. The only time the US cares about the total medal count is during the winter Olympics because we suck at so many winter Olympic sports.

Colleges don't care about the PSAT scores, they care about the SATs. NMSF are sought after because they are expected to have great grades and SATs. I would bet that 95% of the people on this board had no clue kids were commended until there was the ridiculous scandal over commended kids not being told they were commended.

They *were* told they were commended via email.

They just weren’t given a certificate right away or had a special press release - so the clueless parents didn’t know.

Kids receiving a commended certificate (in addition to an email) a few weeks late is not remotely the same as widespread boundary changes. Strawman.

I am far from MAGA and have no kid getting this award, but yes, the school system should recognize the kids, send out a corrected email and apologize.


FCPS and the schools all recognize football and other sports non stop. This should be recognized as well. it is a SCHOOL SYSTEM.

That would be reasonable, rational course of action for a minor error.

This isn’t a “huge deal” and no one should resign over it, FFS. It shouldn’t be spun up on foxnews as some great horror for political purposes.

Woodson is still not complete/accurate, but they added the SoCo, Lewis, and South Lakes kids. Who knows if it's all of them given the mistakes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You need a reality check. So many children and families are completely screwed over by FCPS and have serious problems and issues, and you are complaining that your child didn’t receive public accolades for achievement recognition?

Congrats on your child’s achievement. They deserve the recognition. But you are completely tone deaf with no perspective to be complaining about this.
