FCPS Mistake: Publishes Completely Erroneous National Merit Commended Students missing several High Schools

Anonymous
Just starting a new cleaner thread to list some of the (major) errors from the FCPS list:

Omitted at least Half of Woodson
Omitted Lewis High School Entirely
Omitted South Lakes High School Entirely

What else?

What else? "What else" = Your imflammatory title and attitude are very off-putting.

Yes, they made a mistake. They will fix it. Story over.

Nobody cares about Commended lists so who cares??

I've never heard of a "commended" list. I assume those are a lower score tier. Who cares?

+1

Get a life, OP.

I thought the Woodson number was oddly low.

So kids scoring a certain score on the PSAT which is meaningless for almost everyone get their names on a meaningless list?

What's the score cut off for this?

I'm guessing OP's kid was omitted and they are bitter.

Commended status doesn't make a difference in college apps. My child was commended a few years ago.

Unless the student is a merit scholar, none of this matter to anyone.

I think it's a nice gesture for those students who struggle with standardized tests or from lower income areas. No need to outright dismiss even if we as adults understand it's not really a big deal. It could be a nice boost for those kids who got commended. Jus' sayn'

FWIW: Many of you do not understand the selection process.

The semi-finalist cutoff is by state. The commended cutoff is the top 3% nationally. Many of the commended listed could be semi-finalists in another state.

But, as to the list being incorrect and leaving students out.

It is just an example of the lack of attention by our staff in FCPS headquarters. If they are going to put out a list, it should be correct and complete. It is not that hard to check it twice. If a high school is left off the list, it would seem someone would check to be sure it was correctly left off.

My daughter is a commended scholar. It really doesn't count for anything and she doesn't care if she's in a press release or not.

However. Her school did not have a ceremony or anything else acknowledging commended scholars and this press release is literally the only way for her to know who else is commended, and she is definitely interested in knowing that 😁

Work on your grammar and perhaps you can be a NMSF or commended student one day.

Kids who struggle with standardized tests or from low-income areas aren’t typically scoring in the top 3% nationally. Are you mentally challenged or just a troll?

OP is right that FCPS ought to get its list right.
