Holton-Arms Hate Crime Incident

Anonymous
To everyone saying this is a “victimless crime” no it’s not. It makes the Black community feel less safe and appreciated at Holton. One person was caught. How many others are doing this? That’s the problem

Besides the obvious lesson of not being racist, the important thing to tell a daughter is to assume that when you send a message, anyone may be able to read it. Most teenagers get into trouble because they assume messages are private and won’t be shared.

Am I to understand a friend reported her friend to the school authorities? That’s crazy and what kind of people are these? Tell your friend’s mom and ditch the friend who is sending these kinds of messages. Reporting her to school sounds cray cray.

Well, you can discuss this with the hos and share your views.

Do you want to choose the punishment that makes you happy ?

So the student was suspended but decided to withdraw? Where to then?

I think your stance is crazy. The friend who reported should not be blamed. She did the right thing.

Seriously why though? What did she accomplish? The parents should have been told.

This is a tiny community so it’s inevitable news will spread much quicker. Most students do not engage in racist behavior. And many schools actively work to prevent, address, and educate around these issues. But it still happens. Not just at Holton.

The person who reported did the right thing. Ignoring or minimizing harmful behavior protects the behavior, not the community. Accountability is how schools maintain inclusive environments.

No one here really knows what they are talking about. I think it would be best to follow the advice of HOS and stop speculating.

THANK YOU. This is an awful thing that happened, but don't you dare blame the person who reported the vile behavior.

Agreed. All the speculation is only doing harm.

Finally an adult is talking. There was a racist message, disciplinary action, and it was announced to the community. I’m not sure what else there is to talk about. If someone is unhappy with the process, there are only two options: share your views with the HOS or leave the school. Not much else.

I’d wager the girl is troubled or going through something and the punishment is that this will follow her around for years to come. She will more than pay the price here. I’m sorry for the victim of course, I just think a small amount of mercy toward a troubled young girl may be warranted. Corrective action needn’t be mercenary.
