1. Wasn't a hate crime
2. Nothing was posted...it was private messages between a student and a non student
3. The student involved no longer attends Holton

That being said, the actions of the student were abhorrent and upsetting. I hope the school helps the students to process and reckon with what happened.

The student who sent the offending messages and got 2-days of suspension has withdrawn from Holton?

DP. I don't know who made the call, but that student is no longer at Holton.

both students at HA

No. Only one HA student involved.

There are two involved. Both still are in school.

Lies. Seriously, stop. What is the end goal?? The other student you are alluding to is the one who turned in her friend. These lies are harmful to these kids.

Just to be precise, offensive speech is not a hate crime.

Many of you have likely heard about the recent behavior of two Holton seniors involving deeply racist and hateful content posted online. From what has been shared with me, these posts included horrific images and comments—one depicting Black babies being violently harmed by white police officers, and others expressing the hope that slavery would return and that Nazis should have “finished the job” during the Holocaust, specifically referring to African Americans.

What is perhaps most upsetting is the school’s response. Thus far, one student has reportedly received a three-day suspension, while the other appears to have faced no disciplinary action at all. Additionally, parents received an email from Penny Evans urging us to respect the privacy of the students involved and to refrain from “gossip,” which feels deeply inappropriate given the seriousness of the situation.

Holton regularly emphasizes its commitment to DEIB values, and yet the lack of transparency and accountability here is frankly alarming. I am profoundly disappointed by the administration’s handling of this matter and cannot help but wonder how this aligns with the values the school claims to uphold. I would really appreciate hearing how other parents are processing this, because at the moment, I am beyond disgusted.

DEI is performative. Now you know.

I don't know, it sure seems like a hate crime to me...how would you define a hate crime?

DP. Most hate crimes require an underlying crime. Like murder or assault but for racist reasons. Vandalism, but for racist reasons. You get the idea.

No. Only one HA student involved.

So one non-HA student, the recipient.

One HA student, the perpetrator and author of incendiary messages.

One HA student, friend of the perpetrator but no alleged actual racist acts — but was aware of the messages sent?

Only perpetrator was on suspension, 2 HA students remain at HA.

Is this accurate?

Closer than previous guessers, but the offending student is not at Holton any longer AS OF TODAY. Friend of the perpetrator saw the messages her friend sent and turned her in to the school. This poor kid is in shambles after realizing her friend is racist. She did the right thing. Let's not run her name through the mud.

The reactions to foolish and cruel actions by a teenage girl are really over the top. I’d wager the girl is troubled or going through something and the punishment is that this will follow her around for years to come. She will more than pay the price here. I’m sorry for the victim of course, I just think a small amount of mercy toward a troubled young girl may be warranted. Corrective action needn’t be mercenary.

If I am understanding the situation there actually was no victim - they were private messages.
