Holton-Arms Hate Crime Incident

Anonymous
I’m honestly at a loss and wanted to see if anyone else is feeling as disturbed as I am. Many of you have likely heard about the recent behavior of two Holton seniors involving deeply racist and hateful content posted online. From what has been shared with me, these posts included horrific images and comments—one depicting Black babies being violently harmed by white police officers, and others expressing the hope that slavery would return and that Nazis should have “finished the job” during the Holocaust, specifically referring to African Americans.

What is perhaps most upsetting is the school’s response. Thus far, one student has reportedly received a three-day suspension, while the other appears to have faced no disciplinary action at all. Additionally, parents received an email from Penny Evans urging us to respect the privacy of the students involved and to refrain from “gossip,” which feels deeply inappropriate given the seriousness of the situation.

Holton regularly emphasizes its commitment to DEIB values, and yet the lack of transparency and accountability here is frankly alarming. I am profoundly disappointed by the administration’s handling of this matter and cannot help but wonder how this aligns with the values the school claims to uphold. I would really appreciate hearing how other parents are processing this, because at the moment, I am beyond disgusted.

Hideous. These girls should be outed and canceled and made to shovel shit.

Pretty sure there was only one offending student.

+1 I have a feeling that word will get out about this

I’m no fan of Holton, but refraining from gossip is always a good idea.

What? You don't understand what happened...

1. Wasn't a hate crime
2. Nothing was posted...it was private messages between a student and a non student
3. The student involved no longer attends Holton

That being said, the actions of the student were abhorrent and upsetting. I hope the school helps the students to process and reckon with what happened.

You obviously don't know the people involved if you think this is true.

I could be mistaken on the second front, my daughter didn't know very much about the actual interaction. But she did confirm that she saw the student in the halls recently, so I'm not sure about the third comment.

See? OP should have refrained from gossiping.

I don't know, it sure seems like a hate crime to me...how would you define a hate crime?

This is horrifying. The way it has been handled shows a shocking lack of seriousness and accountability. What happened to the DEIB program Holton brags about? Embarrassing....

This is correct.
