FA - real life

You had three kids and want them all in private. Three kids is a large family. You should either figure out how to earn more, or drop down to public.

Financial aid doesn’t make sense for you. You could afford private if you had fewer kids. You had a big family and stretched your budget too far. Either earn more or drop down to public.

You just admitted you couldn’t afford a third kid, so pretty sure those missing donations are not by choice.

Neither can OP. OP is funding the third through charity.

Most people I know would be ashamed in this situation.

And this is why it’s clear you don’t actually have kids in a DMV independent school.

We have four and are full pay. Accepting charity / financial aid is not something that we would ever be okay with.

So I understand that it hurts your feelings that some ppl feel resentful that you get aid. However, it’s a little tone def to feel like that isn’t a legitimate response. You don’t have to agree with it, and you can still feel that your family is well within their rights to get aid. Still, I think the annoyance some full pay families feel is also a sentiment that makes sense.

As a teacher who left a Big 3 school after over a decade of service because we could not afford to send our children there, suffice it to say that there is a lot about this that pisses me off.

Why? You would have gotten FA.

If you did, you would know that FA isn’t charity nor do the schools present it as such. Since you don’t know that at all, it’s quite clear you are full of it.

Okay that’s great! More financial aid for the families that need it. Get over yourself!

It rubs me as unethical what OP is doing.

Well you sound wonderful. As long as you know you’re paying full pay for four kids at a school that gives financial aid to plenty of families like the OP. Sounds like you picked the perfect school.

Does it? No way. You haven’t already made that comment about 80 times across two threads or something.

I think 300k with middle class and up parents is one thing, but a dual income 300k HHI family who climbed their way up from the working class is just in a different boat, too. I’d be mad at the people getting an inheritance later, not mad at the family who has to financially support their parents in old age or who themselves attended shitty public schools and made every sacrifice to land a job making 150k.

I now realize that my family probably would have qualified for at least some financial aid when we started in private at K. But I never even considered applying. So we sacrificed a lot to send our kids to the school. No vacations, no new cars, etc. We made about $200k at the time, and I don’t think aid should be for families like mine or OP’s. There are families at our school getting aid who drive fancy cars, kids wear expensive clothes, etc. It’s messed up.

We applied and did not get any. And no tuition remission.
