Identity crisis- running from Catholic identity which at this point is largely a fig leaf for old alums.
Leftist- Georgetown has become a haven for leftist wash outs. Complains it doesn’t have money then hires every leftist retread. Poor leadership- former DC apex predator has seen GW gain substantial ground against it. SFS is really all it has left. It’s excessive tuition is just the fork in your eye. |
can you please expand? Is it because the area would be more of the same, especially in case you’ve been in DMV since preschool. Lol. My DC has Georgetown on a pedestal. I know a lot of other kids in MD with the same view of the school. Not sure if these high stat kids are just making themselves feel good if they get in because of the low acceptance rate. I know it’s not a given most of them will get in and that SFS and Business are both very selective. But I’m not sure the school is worth it as a full pay over mid/low tier schools with full tution merits. |
That is because you are not going there. Only your kid is going there. |

Anyone who thinks a course on the problem of god is a waste of DC’s time (or worse, harmful) doesn’t belong at any institution of higher learning, and certainly not Georgetown. You don’t like the flavor? Just pick another ice cream lady. |
those courses both sound super interesting to me, and i'm not religious at all |
Translation: rats, rats, and more rats. I pray for them |
My niece is an atheist and a sophomore at Georgetown and loved taking The Problem of God as a freshman. It is not bent toward preaching at all - it is if anything a very good intro to philosophy, history, religious studies, psychology, etc and critical thinking skills. |
Georgetown has rats problem https://thehoya.com/features/oh-rats-georgetowns-rodent-problem-grows/ |
That’s not very religious. All Catholic universities require students to take a religion class. GU is Catholic. If you want a secular institution go elsewhere. |
CAS is just as competitive for UG admissions as SFS and Business. Georgetown has an international reputation and strong placement, which means a lot these days. |

We have a kid who is an upperclassmen at Georgetown and we live about 4 miles from campus.
Kid is not part of the lax-bro (male or female) culture, apparently has a great group of friends, is active in a number of clubs and has had a number of great internship opportunities, particularly during the school year. SFS has been a great experience for them, even if going into the government at this time isn't a first choice. And problem of god was a great class for them - we are not particularly religious or catholic. |
| Any info on their Environmental Studies program? |
6-7 |
| Not religious but woke. The campus is underwhelming indeed. So poorly maintained and the airplanes over your head non-stop. If it were not in D.C., it would not be so prestigious. There are way better schools and ND is definitely one of them. |
You can’t separate colleges and their geographical environments and networks. DC is absolutely a resource. Indiana: hard pass. |
