Thoughts on Georgetown

What do DC folks think of Georgetown these days? We were a bit underwhelmed. I mean, it’s an excellent school, but compared to similarly selective schools, you wonder why it’s so selective.

What did you find underwhelming?

Solid school. Aspirational for many. Unmatched SFS. Crappy facilities but I suppose it can be overlooked.

What didn't you like? I toured with DS 2 years ago and we LOVED it. Great neighborhood/access to a fun city, kids looked happy, job placements are excellent (DC was looking at the b school).

Another poster wonderful what you didn't like about Georgetown. I toured it last year and thought it was great. Great access to cafes, restaurants, all of D.C. All of the old dorms are going away and being replaced by nicer buildings. What's there not to like?

Old school, founded in 1700s. Not my DS's top choice but it is a strong school in most areas.

Not much of a campus.

For our kids- too close. We used to live in the neighborhood and still only 2 miles away.

Great school and great neighborhood…and the kids on the west coast (and Midwest) are thrilled and excited about being so close to all the monuments/museums. My kid was turned off that all of the orientation and special events were places she had been to a million times, not new. Really wanted to get out of the DC area and have her own new experiences.

It’s $94,580 a year. That’s all I need to know!

I guess you don’t know it has three campuses.

My kid looooved it. Only downside is that it's too close to home.

middling private for the price it seems with no real stem quality or offerings. SFS is unattractive given the state of DC.

LOL “middling”

This is why we were also underwhelmed. And the facilities are not well maintained. My kid's first choice is ND, the exact opposite to Georgetown from a campus perspective. Much more green space, beautifully maintained. But she applied to Georgetown as well because she really wants a Catholic school. She is also not super interested in being so close to home, so there is also that.
