JMU in the CFP

The same Duke team that lost to Tulane?

More states are rooting for JMU than any other team. Underdogs always get the love. It’s great for the school. It’s great for the Sun Belt.

Indeed - let's hear it for the underdogs. Does the system have flaws? Yes. But it's not JMU's fault. Given that this question is in the college and not sports forum, what's everyone's thoughts on how this might impact application numbers next year. It is true that JMU is increasingly offering all the experiences of other "rah rah" schools but historically has been more accessible to average stat kids.

It’s also affordable and becoming more recognized nationally, and all this talk about the CFP will only help that.

Huh? DEI is quite the bogeyman for you people. Anything you don’t like, you just blame on DEI.

People really think JMU and Tulane are better than Texas, Vandy, BYU, and ND? That’s like comparing the NBA to the G league. If that’s not DEI in action, I’m not sure what is.

There are two main reasons why there is at least one group of 5 champion in the CFP. First, there was a concern that a rule giving automatic invitations to only the power conference champions might violate antitrust laws, since the CFP is dominated by the Power 4 (actually by the SEC and Big Ten). Thus, currently it gives automatic invitations to the 5 highest ranked conference champions, so that theoretically any FBS conference champ could get in if ranked high enough. Second, and perhaps more importantly, if the CFP is going to be truly a national championship it needs to have a mechanism where the group of 5 teams at least have a chance of participating, albeit a small one. Finally, Tulane beat USC in the Cotton Bowl in 2022 and was ranked No.9 in the country that year.

No way they should be in as Duke got shafted by CFP committee members all of whom probably could not have gotten into Duke as a student and have resentment to that elite and wealthy school. Ratings will be horrible as JMU has no brand.

Could of saved time and flushed that money down the toilet.

UVA couldn’t beat JMU. They lost to them 2 years ago. This year’s JMU team is much better. Duke sure as hell couldn’t beat them.

You mean 8-5 Duke? They couldn’t beat JMU. Duke lost to perennial powerhouse UConn.

I know it must have been painful when JMU ripped the silver spoon out of Duke’s mouth, but Duke underperformed this year.

Duke would beat JMU by at least 10 points. Happiest guy has to be Bob Chesney coming from an academic school like Holy Cross and now being hired by another good academic school UCLA. In a 10 game series, UVA would win at least 7 games against JMU.

UVA could have scheduled JMU every year, but they haven’t because of losses like 2023. They paid good money to JMU to get beaten. The same holds true for VT. They’ve dodges JMU since they lost the last game. We’ll see what happens next year.

JMU smokes pole. They should be nowhere near the playoff if it's really about finding the 12 best teams. Texas would be favored over them by 17 on a neutral field.

Complete fiasco that JMU is in.

3 teams are ahead of Horns so removing JMU wouldn't help
