Yes, some people seem to mistakenly think DCUM is social media. If you don't have a handle, it's not social media. None of us knows who the hell we're interacting with. I could be Michelle Obama or a cocker spaniel. |
| I never understood the attraction of Instagram |
It was great when it first started. After Meta bought it, it became the same trash FB is. |
This is exactly right. They use it like TV and watch a ton of it. Just because they are not posting 15 pics of their cousin's baby shower doesn't mean social media is dying. It is more popular than ever--just not being used in the same way it was 20-15-10 years ago. |
Social media isn't like alcohol, it's like crack. It is not possible to consume TikTok and similar apps without having negative impacts. These apps train your brain to need the constant stimulation of of bite-size entertainment, and also use algorithms to ensure people are only exposed to content they will like/be susceptible to. Also, the apps are free. Why? The same reason drug dealers will sometimes offer a taste for free. Everyone will pay later, don't worry. You may think you are not susceptible to the negative sides of social media, but likely you are and are simply unaware. People who acknowledge the negative impacts of social media tend to be more critical and self aware, and therefore better able to identify social media as the root of issues. You probably have negative mental health and relationship effects from your social media use, but just don't realize it. |
This is not true. Most teens exchange IG accounts instead of phone numbers. |
I'd say your kids are the anomaly. Our Gen Z kids are on TikTok (which I will have nothing to do with) and IG (which reluctantly I am on, mostly to keep up with their posts). They may also be elsewhere, but if so, I don't know about it. |
no boomer |
Some still do TikTok but a lot focus on YouTube My teen daughter looks at insta but mainly watches 100000 Netflix show . My teen son is addicted to video games. Both hate FB and I'm not on anything except Reddit and sometimes Pinterest. It's all texting for everyone all the time too!!

| I wish this were true but it just is not. |
I literally exchanged AIM screen names when I met my wife in college instead of phone numbers
|
Of course they don’t have FB. They have Finstas, TikTok, and Snap. |
Actually boomers have mostly embraced all the social media more than Gen X. I used to be on all the platforms, but it's become a slop.of AI, influencers trying to get people to buy crap, and fascists. |
| I work in social media and i'm sorry to inform you that it's very much not dying. it's just evolving. And no, no one has posted on facebook for 5 years now. |
