Shouldn't we follow the Department of Defense's interpretation of the Law of Warfare? I mean, our own rules? "18.3.2.1 Clearly Illegal Orders to Commit Law of War Violations. The requirement to refuse to comply with orders to commit law of war violations applies to orders to perform conduct that is clearly illegal or orders that the subordinate knows, in fact, are illegal. For example, orders to fire upon the shipwrecked would be clearly illegal." I added the bold for your benefit. |
| The White House is trying to throw the admiral under the bus. THIS is why you don't obey illegal orders. |
Yep, using his name over and over and over. It’s just going to further tank Hesgeth’s reputation within the military. Follow his illegal orders and get thrown under the bus at the first sign of trouble. |
The service members cannot avail themselves of a "just following orders" defense. They should have known this was an illegal order and they are as culpable as Hegseth and trump because Hegseth did not issue this order without trump knowledge and agreement. |
Can they refuse orders from the secretary? |
They not only can but they must. Members of the military are required to refuse illegal orders as the second strike obviously was. |
Not only can they, they must. So in this case, the drone operators are in hot water too. |
Everyone involved needs to go down. If they don’t it just says that you can murder people and commit crimes whenever it suits you. |
Of course. All members of the armed forces have been advised they not only can, but are obligated to refuse to carry out an illegal order! "Duty to refuse: U.S. service members are not required to follow an illegal order. In fact, they are legally required to disobey an order if it is patently illegal—meaning it's clearly a crime or a violation of the Constitution, as discussed by BBC and The Conversation.". Murder is definitely an illegal order,! |

Trump just threw admiral Frank M. Bradley under the buss.
“ White House says admiral approved second strike on boat from Venezuela, defends attack as lawful. Hegseth authorized admiral to conduct strikes on Venezuelan vessel, White House says Critics question legality of strikes, lawmakers to investigate The White House said on Monday that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized an admiral to conduct multiple strikes on a vessel from Venezuela allegedly carrying illegal narcotics in September. The Washington Post had reported that a second strike was ordered to take out two survivors from the initial strike and to comply with an order by Hegseth that everyone be killed.“ https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/white-house-admiral-approved-second-strike-boat-venezuela-was-well-within-legal-2025-12-01/ Better lawyer up! The example used for an illegal order by the military in training is shooting people clinging to a boat. This admiral is f’ed. |
If the secretary tell you to kill a 3 year old, two people who survived your strike or us civilians you should refuse the order. Now the DOD will court martial you or just summary executed you. |
|
This is why the Democrats's video recording about not following illegal orders was so poorly received by the White House and Hegseth. They know what they did!
|
| The US military own manual says shooting ship wreck survivors is illegal and amoral. They executed German submarine commanders for this. |
They're trying to see what they can get away with and if the American people will sit by quietly and ignore their actions until it's too late. |
The Admiral wanted that promotion. Trump made him an Admiral and then he was moved into this position in October when the other guy said, "deuces, I'm out. I am not following that order to shoot civilian boats out of the water". I mean what did this Admiral expect was going to happen - Trump would protect him. We will see. |
