Our family if 5 flew to Europe out of Newark last Christmas because the flights were so much cheaper. Many nearby airport hotels have deals where you leave your car with them and they shuttle you to the airport. We did this, and it was fine nothing dangerous or sketchy about it. |
| I think the only airport in the U.S. that is dangerous is Oakland. The airport is fine, but many, many warnings about the area around it. |
| Where are you starting from? Either take Amtrak to the Newark airport station, of start at your local airport and find a United flight to Newark, which is a hub. Newark is kind of crappy for flight delays - if you’re going overseas, Dulles is a much better option. They almost always release the flights going overseas even if there’s weather - you just have to get off the ground and then you’re out of the systems, and they usually aren’t waiting for aircraft to come in from somewhere else in the US. |
| OP when you look at crime statistics, how many people are victimized while they drive to the airport? This is ridiculous. |
I agree that Dulles is easier. Even if a Newark flight overseas is $200 cheaper, is it really “cheaper?” $800 “saved” for a family of four, is this really saving money when you factor everything involved? Gas, tolls, mileage on vehicle, parking at airport, Amtrak fare, your time…any way that you do it, there is a cost. Then there is returning from your overseas flight, and having to schlep from Newark back to DC. |

You’ll be fine.

OMG. Some of you are watching WAY too much Fox News. The Newark airport is fine, as is the train station that services the airport. You can do one of those long-term parking situations if you need to ... there are multiple sites.

| This question is wild to me. Newark is fine. You properly would like it as it’s gentrifying. |
And you have to drive past Baltimore to get there! |
I am picturing OP, picturing the roads in northern New Jersey, lined with bad guys with machine guns, like in the movie Clear and Present Danger, the scene in Cali Colombia in the early 90s. |
I watch Fox News every day and there is no coverage of crime near the Newark airport. But there is legitimate footage related to crime in other places. Pretending it doesn't exist is magical thinking. |
Very true, definitely want to stay out of the states with the highest murder rates Louisiana New Mexico Alabama Tennessee Missouri South Carolina North Carolina Mississippi Arkansas But should travel to the states with the lowest rates New Hampshire Hawaii Idaho Massachusetts Rhode Island Nebraska Iowa Maine New Jersey Okay this is all definitely off topic now! Feel free to delete Jeff! |
I’ve seen the footage on Fox “News” of San Francisco. Imagine my surprise when visiting SF, that the storylines on Fox were just a LITTLE BIT exaggerated. Fox loves to tell you how out of control things are in blue areas, but the reporting on crime, lack of education, rampant poverty and issues plaguing red states like Alabama and Louisiana aren’t reported. |
Fox News. Every day. Wow! |
Oh true. Ugh, Baltimore. You can almost see the crime from the highway! It's treacherous! |
