Manhattan was off the chain in the 70’s. People could not ride the subways, and she thinks it was safer then than this now. It must be her age and she is remembering rat infested, sticky movie theatre doors, broken subway cars, heroine addicted druggies trying to sell their babies on the platform through rose-colored lenses. The 60’s manhattan was indeed a hellhole. |

So we can conclude from this thread that people who live in blue urban areas think they're better, and people who live in red suburban and rural areas think they're better.
Put a different way, people choose to live in areas they think are better. Stop the presses! |
I have been to San Francisco many times and have yet to encounter anyone ranting about bums shitting on the ground on command. |
This is true. MPD has been manipulating crime stats forever, but the only way to manipulate a homicide is to classify it as a suicide. I doubt that happens very often. |
I don’t understand why it has to be a zero-sum game. If I live in Area A, that doesn’t require me to believe Area A is paradise on earth and Area B is a crime-ridden hellhole. We’re acting like different areas of the country are rival high schools that we’re supposed to hate with maximum intensity. |
The 70's and 80's were rough in Manhattan. Couples could not walk to restaurants on date night due to safety issues. You had to take a cab. |
Because the Republican solution-- tougher policing, build more prisons, throw more people into jail-- is unpopular among democrat voters in Jackson! |
That's been going on for decades dude. It's called federal govt jobs for African Americans, welfare benefits, SNAP benefits, Medicaid, etc. |
|
You're paranoid. There was zero chance you would have been robbed/murdered/raped by those Karens.
If you stepped a block outside the bougie sections of STL, Baltimore, Chicago, etc though...it becomes a different story. |

I have lived in DC for over 50 years. I have not co-existed with bums that shit on the ground, ever. Where do you even come up with this? |
No, what we can conclude is that MAGAs don't know how to read or understand data for themselves and rely on propaganda for their information. |
Are you suggesting only white people should work for the federal government? |
PP must be one of those bums. Takes one to know one. |
|
Back on topic, but yes blue cities have way more violence than the small towns MAGA may be more accustomed to. Part of it is that when you live in a city, you know where and when not to be. A tourist may stumble into something, as the line between good and not-good can be a block thin in DC. The smug DC residents here probably don't ride the X2, or whatever its called now, after midnight for instance.
You don't have to be aware of hyper-local distinctions when you're in some MAGA town, so that's why they judge the whole city by its worst parts. |
