Should I really not share my opinion with DD?

Anonymous
Opinion is different from clearly pushing a decision.

I can see offering an opinion backed up by facts if asked. Otherwise, if DC is struggling then I like the idea of helping with a pro/con list. Or if I remember some of her reactions during tours bring those up again to make sure they are still factors. Ask what are the issues keeping them undecided and maybe help them walk through those.

Don't make the decision for them, but help them learn how to evaluate and make decisions on their own.

It is wonderful that you have this relationship with your DC

I don't understand this talk of "sharing one's opinion." My DS had many options last year, and there were many arguments to be made pro and con each of them, both on its own terms and in comparison with the others. My spouse and I had strong opinions, which we shared and even emphasized, on which of these argument were stronger than others. But we didn't share our opinion on where DS should go because we didn't have an opinion on where DS should go -- that was up to him! The only thing we cared about was that DS not make his decision for bad reasons -- that is, from reasons that he would likely later regret.

Have your child look at courses required for their major at each school.

Why not just ask questions and help your child work through the decision in their head? My kid was also picking between two schools - turns out that one of them is not a top choice but DC wanted to apply there because it has a higher acceptance rate and my kid wanted that certainty. Kids have terrible perspective. After discussing their concerns/fears, DC decided on their own to submit to the other school, which was their first choice all along.

I did say, these are both great schools. My pros for Fancy U are the really tight community, I loved that dining hall, we know Peter is happy there, the career placement center was the best we saw, the residential system is my ideal, and there history faculty is top. My cons are the price wouldn't leave you with anything for grad school, travel back and forth will always be a pain, I dont know that it has as many alumni back in this area, if this is where you want to end up.

For Hudson U, the pros are Hogwarts buildings, which I love. The food is plenty good enough. Singles housing, which you liked. Tons of school spirit - very rah rah. Off campus housing junior and senior year at a reasonable price, great price with money left over for grad school. Cons are their history department is a little thinner, student-athlete divide is a concern, and all these reports of murders.

I mean, I think you know which one I like but I'm not SAYING which one I think she should ED to .

WTAF! Sooo passive aggressive, but please enlighten us PP as to this murderous institution.

Hudson U is the fictional name of the college in Law and Order where every college-kid murden takes place. Law and Order is a television show that has been running in different incarnations for about 30 years. TV is a thing you watch for entertainment.

Your "soooo passive aggressive" bullshit about a joke that went over your head is peak DCUM
