Moderates

Anonymous
I think a moderate is simply someone who can take stock of a moment and decide what matters most right now (when voting). Someone who understands that governing is not about agreeing on every single possible issue and that the best politicians are those who understand the issues instinctively, the operation of government deeply, and excel at intelligent compromise. A moderate also understands the operation of our government enough to know what issues can actually be influenced by which elections and moderates their vote accordingly.

The "issues" vary from election to election, generation to generation. Being a moderate is not about the issues so much as about attitude, thoughtfulness, and understanding civics.

Why do you want to alienate people with a dumb comment like this?

PP’s goal is not to alienate. It is subdue and silence people.

LOL. I'm not that powerful. You all eschewed your abhorrent views on abortion on the other thread. "I had a medically necessary one, but nobody else should."

No idea what thread you are talking about, but you are definitely another authoritarian activist.

That's right, I'm against authoritarianism, which is why I marched last weekend and donate my big beautiful tax breaks to congressional and gubernatorial Dems candidates.

No. You are another authoritarian supporter. Disgusting.

Strong words coming from a troll paid by Iran.

You do enough to turn people off from democracy with all the hate you spew toward moderates and even fellow liberals. It will be interesting when Trump is out of office and you no longer have him to blame. Oh wait. We saw that already in the condemnation of Biden. Dems eating their own. Both parties suck. Yep, bOtH sIdEs. Actually, two sides with the major parties suck. Our country is a triangle and the only sane side is the third side.

Trump has an added an ugly dynamic to our current political dysfunction but fortunately his era in politics will be over soon and then we'll be left dealing with the struggle for control of our country between the American people and the wealthy and powerful financial backers of our two parties. I'm on the side of the American people.

But I am a moderate in that I am a pragmatist. I respect that other people disagree with me vehemently, and while I can believe they are wrong and harmful with every speck of my being…I still acknowledge their right to their opinions and to be equal participants in our democracy. And I can negotiate, discuss, and partner with them to find compromise that will give us each some of what we want, but not all. I have faith that doing things this way will result in gradual progress and stability, which I value more than having every bit of what I believe in now without compromise.

It's much easier to have your attitude about slow progress when you aren't the person actively suffering under the status quo. I think thats what people who smugly call themselves moderates, as though they are morally andmlogically superior to everyone else, don't seem to get.

You worked for USAID. You care about poor people. But you're not too vexed if policies are enacted that leave the recipients of USAID starving, because YOU have food, and can just calmly wait for slow progress. It doesn't make you better than people who find the situation a bit more urgent.

Did you miss the part where I worked for USAID? I’m unemployed. I may not be hungry, but I’m hardly unvexed by the current situation. People I love rely on medicaid and food stamps. People I love are trans. But yeah, I’m in my late 50’s and have watched the arc of history bend toward and away from justice, and I’m going to take a longer view while doing everything in my power to provide safety and comfort to those who are suffering because the world is still f’d up.

I do not think I am better than people who take a different approach or who push harder and faster. I think I’m more pragmatic, sure. But pragmatism isn’t some moral gold star. It takes all types to bring about change. It takes you, and it takes me. Can you drop your fighting stance for a sec, especially against people who agree with your policy positions?

No I will not drop my fighting stance. I find your moralizing about pragmatism offensive while people that look like me and live like me are in a fight for our lives. I'm sure we do agree on a lot. So maybe drop your stance of superiority?

DP. So much winning. We will remain in a perpetual loop for a loooonnnnggg time.

Exactly!

This simply isn’t true. I strongly dislike Trump and the rest of his administration. Condemn the majority of what he does and how he operates.

Great, now how about the rest of the boot licking GOP who make Trump possible.

He could do all he has without their consent.

They could not have made Trump possible without the help of the tyrants on the left.

Oh dear

A snowflake that was hurt deeply by covid, huh?

DP. Just because you like a different flavor than Trump, doesn’t mean you’re not a bootlicker yourself. Your attempts to paint pp into something they are not prove it.

Oh and where do you stand on the Constitution that the GOP are ripping up before our eyes.

No, covid restrictions are not the equivalent of tossing checks and balances, separation of church and state, etc.

You are a traitor

No one is talking about COVID except you.

This is not about COVID, bootlicker. Trump will be gone by 2028 if not sooner. You relish every step he takes on the constitution Ans you cannot wait to do the same and more. You’re a hypocrite and a traitor in sheep’s clothing.
