Yep. IYKYK

If you guys are implying that our government has always been spying on us, I wouldn’t be surprised. But what’s different now is that the technology will be used by an authoritarian government that doesn’t GAF about the law and does not fear any consequences of breaking the law.

NSA surveillance is conducted under FISA, is primarily surveillance of foreign nationals abroad, and needs a warrant from a judge. When Americans have been caught up in it (as happened to Trump staffers) it was because there was someone on the other end of the call who was a foreign actor under surveillance.

If ICE is conducting mass surveillance of Americans without warrants, that's illegal and will need to be investigated and prosecuted. When Trump leaves office, that should be a top priority for the Department of Justice. ICE agents involved in it should be on notice that they are probably going to go to jail for it.
Obama's DOJ and FBI lied to FISA to get warrants on Trump.

We’re talking about mass surveillance, not individual instances.

Did that involve mass surveillance as discussed in the OP’s original article?

Thanks for sharing, smart guy.

Congress wanted to keep the patriot act in place after 9/11 and the Bush administration, so here we are. Now people don’t want it???? You were warned but didn’t listen.

What’s interesting is that despite all the rhetoric of how Trump was a wannabe dictator by leading Dems during Trump’s first impeachment , they overwhelming voted to renew the patriot act.

Does that include fellow citizens who protest the Trump administration?

If they FA, they will FO.

Sounds like you hate our Constitution? If you loved our country, you would defend our right to protest.

MAGA truly hates America and they proved it on J6.

So do drug cartels.

Gross misrepresentation. Obama's DOJ and FBI *did not* engage in any kind of coordinated conspiracy to surveil Trump. They received a tip about Carter Page and applied to a judge for a FISA warrant to surveil Carter Page. Note that Trump himself was not surveilled. In the process of applying for the warrant, there was an omission of the fact that several years prior, Carter Page had provided intel to the FBI. The right wing constantly insists on totally distorting what happened and pretending there was some vast conspiracy to spy on Trump but the evidence says otherwise.

Meanwhile, compare that now to Trump, who has ICE deploying equipment to conduct mass surveillance against American citizens, without warrants, without probable cause. It is far worse than anything that happened in the Obama administration. Spare us your "oh but Obama" pearlclutching nonsense.

No, Democrats didn't "overwhelmingly" vote to renew the Patriot Act - 75 Democrats voted against it and the vote was very contentious and frankly the only way it passed at all is because Republicans attached it to an appropriations bill. And meanwhile, Trump's lawlessness, his abuses of power, warrantless arrests and surveillance, his weaponization of the DOJ and interference in criminal cases, his refusal to follow congressional oversight, his refusal of court orders, the countless lies and perjuries, his illegal firings and other things have absolutely nothing to do with reauthorization of the Patriot Act and go well beyond anything the Patriot Act authorizes.

Don't you ever get tired of lying and distorting facts?
