ICE is beefing up its spyware—and it’s not just for “illegals”

The surveillance state has arrived in a big way and it’s not just coming for migrants; it’s coming for you. Anyone who’s not concerned lacks imagination.

“ Technologies purchased by ICE in recent weeks include an iris-scanning app that agents plan to use in the field, spyware that can hack into smartphones remotely and cellphone location software that can enable the tracking of a phone’s movements without a court warrant.”

“But Democratic lawmakers, civil rights watchdogs and former officials have expressed concern that ICE now has a green light not only to monitor immigrant communities, but also to carry out broad surveillance of Americans exercising their First Amendment right to oppose government action.”

The fear is that the technology will be used to go after “antifa” and left wing organizations (that is, anyone who opposes the Trump administration):

“Left-wing organizations have fueled violent riots, organized attacks against law enforcement officers, coordinated illegal doxing campaigns, arranged drop points for weapons and riot materials, and more,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement Thursday.

I've been warning of this in other posts over the years. The government already had this technology. It's not just ICE.

They've got Stingrays all over the D.C. area. Stingrays are somewhat antiquated, with more advanced technologies that capture all the data in your cellphone as you drive past. The government can track your movements via your phone. Here is an article written in 2018 on Stingrays:

You pay for your phone. You pay a steep price for the monthly service. And they steal all the data out of your phone as you drive past one of their towers. Not only that. They can turn your vehicle's smart features or your cellphone's smart features into spying mechanism.

These is the kind of government abuse of power the baby boomers used to be up in arms over.

The boomers are old, and they're tired. New generations need to pick up the baton and carry on with preventing our government from steam rolling over our fragile democracy.

Seems to me the boomers are the ones who got Trump elected and made all this crap happen.
