Dog owners in NYC. Have you noticed an uptick in aggressive dogs around you?

yeah, a Pomeranian isn't going to kill you or rip your face off, no matter how angry and loud it can get. Dogs that can kill should be leashed and muzzled in public places. It's common sense.

You know this means you'll have to muzzle your goldendoodle. Skippy is big enough to kill.

Please provide stats of golden doodles harming people or other animals

The statement was “dogs that can kill.” Do you honestly think a doodle can’t kill? Certainly they can. This is why muzzling all “dogs that can kill” is over the top.

No, I don’t think a golden doodle is capable of killing a person. Do you have any stats on that?

CAN and WILL are two different things. You chose to use the verb "can." So yes, I believe a standard Goldendoodle, which can weigh up to 90 pounds, can kill someone if they are so inclined. It has the capability. Whether it has the inclination is another story. But they can certainly kill.

You think a golden doodle can kill their owner? I guess I’m not sure what distinction you’re trying to make. Golden doodles are not bred to fight or kill like other breeds. They have no record or history of attacking owners. Why would they need to be muzzled or deemed unsafe? I feel like you’re trying to make a false equivalency where one doesn’t exist.

If I have a lab, do you think he should be muzzled?

No, I don't think the vast majority of dogs need muzzling. I would leave it up to the discretion of the owner. The notion that "dogs that can kill should be leashed and muzzled" is just dumb. ALL dogs should be leashed outside of off-leash areas, and almost no dogs need muzzling.

This is really primarily a thing with certain breeds. That’s why there should be breed bans. Do you agree?

I agree. Don't destroy the ones that exist, but spay and neuter them all. Not sure what is debatable about this.

I wish we could do this with certain groups of people...

My friend muzzles her doodle because it gets way too playful and scares some ppl. She doesn't want to deal with people freaked out or uncomfortable or giving her a look, plus maybe avoiding liability in case someone starts claiming the dog hurt them when the dog isn't really capable of it IMHO. Any dog that by mere size can possibly maim a human should be muzzled in tight public places where there is no escape like public transit or elevators or offices (if it's a service animal), etc. It's not a new concept. On the street there is an escape route. People get understandably scared in tight spaces. Having a few wasps fly around when you are on a bench outside isn't as uncomfortable as having them fly inside an elevator, is it?

None of this is new, Some buildings ban dogs because their board members don't want to share elevators with dogs. And it's illegal on NYC subway to bring a dog that doesn't fit into a bag or a carrier and this dog has to be carried on board and contained.

Its' very different in the city with shared indoor public spaces and transit than in the suburbs with yards, bigger parks and personal vehicles.

Nobody is advocating for killing certain breeds. Most of them are nice dogs, but people are scared and accidents do happen, and that's why there are rules to either ban dogs in some spaces altogether or contain them. If the dog is too big to be contained than muzzle can solve the problem. IDK why people think that muzzles in some spaces (not all the time) is a bigger deal than just not being able to take the dog to that place at all.

I think most should be put to sleep. Definitely any in shelters or rescues

I saw about 3 unleashed dogs on Madison Ave in a 10 minute walk. It’s very untenable and the Rover gig walkers are not helping

You saw unleashed on Madison? What kind of dog? That’s a busy street, no?

What’s wrong with Rover gig walkers? They don’t have dogs unleashed.
