Negative association careers for me - PE, ‘family’ law (divorce) attorney. These careers disgust me

Influencers and reality tv personalities. The world really didn’t need to know about the Kardashians or Real Housewives.

Legal recruiters, most of them suck at what they do and are just failed lawyers.

Lobbyists, with the possible exception of those who lobby for non-profit causes.

It is their job to put the prosecution through their paces to ensure a fair trial, that the evidence collected was legal, the jury is as unbiased as possible, etc. They recognize that most of their clients are guilty, but our system requires due process. (at least it did before the current administration) They are truly overworked and underpaid. I had many friends from law school go into that type of work.

Eh, I know this is their spiel for why they do it, but going to trial and re-traumatizing victims in violent crimes and sexual assaults during cross-examination when you know your client did it and should cop a plea is never going to earn any respect from me.

The client is the one that gets to choose whether to accept a plea or not. You can't provide a subpar defense because you think they should have pled out.

Doesn’t change the fact that I have little to no respect for someone whose idea of providing an adequate defense to someone they know is guilty is trashing a rape victim or someone who’s been held up at gunpoint on cross-examination.

NP. Our justice system is built on the concept of everyone getting a fair trial with legal representation. If you’re too stupid to understand why, that’s a you problem.

Name calling, now that’s how I know you really are making a legitimate point 🙄

Me pointing out that you’re a moron doesn’t negate the truth of what I’m saying. You’d understand that, if you had the critical thinking skills that you so clearly lack.

In family law you need the good attorneys who are really trying to represent the best interest of kids. I know there aren't many of them, but somebody has to do it.

Public defenders view themselves as protecting constitutional rights more than defending the individuals. Without defense attorneys the government can blatantly violate your rights.

+1 they serve a very important function of our justice system. The good ones aren’t trying to get guilty people off. They are trying to make sure the government follows the law. Even scum bags deserve due process in America.

Chiropractors, any sort of MLM or other clearly BS “self employment” scheme, influencers (particularly the ones who blast their kids all over social media), pharma, health insurance, and tech CEOs, debt collectors (the people who run the companies and make policies to trick people, not the lowly paid employees), tow truck drivers (at least the predatory ones), people who post on LinkedIn all day as “thought leaders,” most car sales people, commercial real estate management companies (e.g. the people who fill shopping centers with chain stores pushing out small businesses and then minimally maintain the property), same with the people who buy yo land just to put self storage units on them and make a profit holding up redevelopment, and I could probably go on.

I used to look askance at chiropractors, and I silently judged my family and friends who swore by them.

Then I developed spinal stenosis in my cervical spine and began suffering excruciatingly painful episodes of cervical radiculopathy. The pain clinic MD sent me for physical therapy which was months of sessions that provided only modest relief.

After my most recent episode that had me living in agony and losing sleep and teetering on the edge of suicidal ideation, I finally listened to my employer and my cousin and went to see a chiropractor.

She had me from a baseline of 8/10 on the pain scale to a 0 in six ten minute sessions. It was like a freaking miracle had happened in my life!

I have a strong science background and was once pre-med, and I’ve worked in healthcare for over a decade. I know that some doctors don’t endorse chiropractors and some lay folks (like me for decades!) don’t either.

But I swear by it now and am incredibly grateful for the treatment I’ve had these last couple of months. I continue to go every other week because the things she is doing to my musculoskeletal system are steadily improving all kinds of other pain I had come to accept as just the price of a sedentary desk job coupled with aging; I am feeling younger and more flexible and it has motivated me to be more active and to get back into lifting and barre work which I hadn’t done in a long time.

So while I’m sure there are some bad chiropractors like there are bad in every profession, mine is fantastic and I sing her praises!

Pretty much any profession can be done with integrity and there can be bad eggs in even the traditional helping professions.

I'll give you PE though. They've sold their souls

Anonymous wrote:Life coach, wellness coach, that kind of thing. I hate the PE people too but at least they are transparent about their motivations. I've known people in the "wellness space" who will sell you a load of BS about how they just want to help people and promote healthy living, but then they'll charge astronomical prices for something that requires no education or special training, in a field with no oversight or certification. Most of them are glorified yoga instructors. If that! At least yoga is an actual skill.

Agree with all this

Damn how privileged to be disgusted by family law attorneys. People just deserve to stay in bad marriages, right?

People may or may not like their own divorce attorney, but they almost always dislike their ex’s attorney.
