Wedding guest outfit for 7 year old boy

For a 7 year old?

Khakis and a buttoned shirt is fine.

Agree.
Like just buy a suit. Don't be cheap OMG.

Shoes, khakis, button down, vest, bow tie, combed hair=perfect.
Consignment or thrift stores.
Make sure ties are child-sized.

A suit or, worse, a tux to me feels off. And a suit would be outgrown before a second wear.

I don’t think you have to go the British royalty shorts look.

For a different perspective—my fancy waspy family would contend at it is kind of trashy/low-class to put a little boy in a regular suit. Suits like that are for older boys and men. Either an Eton suit or khakis/button-down would be more appropriate. A blazer maybe.

H&M has a 3-piece set for $40 as well as all the separates you might need. My vote is formal with bow tie and cool boots or sneakers.

I absolutely LOVE this. Kids provide levity to weddings and should be allowed to be whimsically dressed!

The kid is 7, not 2. This would look ridiculous. Go to zara, op. I bought my son a cute and comfy medium blue suit in an interesting fabric from here and paired with a white button down and tie

Aha. My mistake. By the ripe age of 7, we expect him to be an MD at a quant hedge fund.

🙄

you can get a cat and jack suit from target if you think a suit would look good! You can also get khaki pants, Oxford shirts and tie there or at old navy , or carter's or children's place - they all sell school uniform pieces.

Khakis, white button down shirt, tie, blue blazer. Go to Nordstrom or Brooks Brothers. Nice shoes like sebagos or loafers for ceremony and pictures. He can change into sneakers and take off tie and blazer once ceremony and pictures are done

What did you end up picking out OP?

I honestly don't know, these responses are all over the place haha. I really do appreciate all the feedback though! I'm glad I have another couple of months to decide. Oh and for those wondering why we're bringing him along, he is close with the groom, it's a family wedding and he was specifically invited. Thanks all!

This is the standard dressy outfit for boys age 1-100.

Signed,

I am neither fancy nor WASP, but I agree. Putting a small child in a suit is inappropriate and try-hard.

That is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. Truly. That poor child looks like a damn chimney sweep.

Costume for Newsies.

Wuxtry, wuxtry, read all about it.

Yeah, it looks louche.
And it looks like the parents couldn't be bothered.

There’s probably truth to that - I wouldn’t be bothered to buy a kid a suit jacket just to please someone like you. The bride, groom and young people in attendance will not care.

Why is what a child wears less significant than how the adults dress?

Because they are a child.

No. An Eton suit is correct until about 7-8. After that they should be in suits. Letting a little boy dress down is not the correct etiquette. He’s either in an Eton suit or a suit.
