As a teacher living with cancer and autoimmune conditions, I really want my shots before I am in contact with kids again. Our insurance made it more complicated than necessary even before RFKJ messed with the recommendations. I now will need to book a physical first and then return no sooner than the next day for shots or pay for them OOP wherever I go. We used to be able to go to CVS, Safeway, or Giant. |
thats for the flu shot! |
Yes, that's what the side discussion was about. |
WHO said in the spring that countries could continue using last year's vaccine in this upcoming season because it is still a good match for current strains. https://www.who.int/news/item/15-05-2025-statement-on-the-antigen-composition-of-covid-19-vaccines |
| Safeway pharmacist said yesterday there is a new one matches current strains available September. Who knows if that is true. |
| Also Safeway pharmacist said they have flu shots now but September is recommended timing. Willston II. |
I think that was for Spring, which many of us do every six months. It's usually the strain type that was available in the Fall. So it won't really match the new strain starting to be prevalent right now. I'm waiting for that one. |
I am hoping it is. And wondering which types. I had great luck with Novavax. |
A pharmacist would know. |
| RFK is never going to allow this |
No, this was a May statement to give guidance for the fall, since vaccine manufacturers need at least a few months notice. |
|
Medicaid will cover it, but Medicare and some private insurers won’t. Word is that most will cover it, because it’s already been budgeted for and it’s too complicated to figure out for the insurers.
The vax offers protection for at least four months, and it’s better than nothing in the surge we are facing. |
Don’t wait. It may be 2030 before we have an updated one, thanks to trump. This one will offer more protection than you think. The strain prevalent right now is similar to the one vax developed for. |

What I suspect may be happening is the 2025-2026 recommendation has not yet been approved. So, we're still operating another 2024-2025 recommendation. The 24-25 recommendation approved one additional dose of the 24-25 formulation for anyone six months to 64 years of age, or two doses for those over 65 or immune compromised. Thus, if you have received those two approved 24-25 doses, the pharmacy is not able to give them a third. However, additional doses of the 24-25 vaccine are approved upon shared clinical decision making, meaning that you can consult with your doctor to decide whether you should receive additional doses.
