Are other Hispanics worried?

Anonymous
My son can pass as Hispanic because of his coloring. It worries me. I had him start carrying his passport card at all times.

It's just terrible times we're living in.

Some kids (young teens) were being unruly at the pool and when the lifeguard admonished them, they snapped back with "Bro, I'm gonna call ICE on your ass! Get you deported!" I knew one of the boy's mom so I messaged her about what he said and also how badly he was behaving at the pool. She didn't care. She literally said "It's crazy they import these lifeguards in, isn't it? Remember when we were kids and lifeguarding was the best job a teen could get? Not anymore." Trash. Total trash.

My Hispanic friends (all of whom are citizens) are very concerned, especially for their teenage/college age sons. You'd like to believe nothing will happen to them, but a lot has happened under this administration that people didn't think would happen.

I'm not sure if my housekeepers are documented or not, but I've offered my garage to park in so they won't have to go through outside and they took me up on it. They mentioned how they need a new fridge but they're too scared to goto Home Depot, so I offered my white husband to go get it for them.

The fear is real and we need to show up and help our community as best we can.

Yes, and I’m only half and look white. My mom is Puerto Rican, born in New York, and is quite dark. She’s remarried to a Puerto Rican from the island. His daughter is PR/Dominican (born here). My brother is as dark as my mom. I don’t worry as much about myself as I am white passing, but I worry a lot about them.

Yikes. Did you respond?

I’m worried about my hispanic-looking family members with “ethnic” names. I’m not sure a US passport will even help. I’ve read reports that if ICE wants to arrest you, they couldn’t care less that you have documentation on you and will conveniently ignore it.

Who do we need to contact to stop this madness? ACLU? Our congressional representatives?

No one is going to stop this. This is what all the MAGA voters wanted!

For those of you who think this is no big deal, watch this video.

There was no warrant for this guy, they don't even know if he is "legal" or "Illegal" - just snatched him, cuffed him and whisked him away.

For those saying that there is no need to be concerned, please remember that every now and then, innocent people are incarcerated and it's often years before they are released. Common sense tells me that there is going to innocent people caught up in this movement to rid the country of illegals. So as much as I'm not worried, I am still a little concerned by the current climate.

There is going to be?? Ummm it’s already happened.

PP here.

Yeah, my bad.

FAFO. The trend of Hispanics voting for Trump republicans is one of the scariest things I’ve seen. Demographically they’ll be the most populous voting block soon and yet they’re voting against their interests.

Who are you to know their interests?

You’re an over-educated white person who arrogantly claims to know the needs of Latinos better than they know their own.

Disgusting bigotry.

I'm watching them being deported. I'm watching them being abducted. I'm watching them crying over losing family members. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that isn't in their best interests.

And it's best not to throw around words like "bigotry" when y9ou clearly don't know what it means.

There it is. Another white person who feels entitled to tell people of color what’s best for them. You probably call yourself “progressive”.

My family (half) is from South America and I can pass for a "brown person" easily, and have mistaken as such on more than 1 occasion. So you can STFU with your assumptions and slurs, you POS.

Where are you that you are seeing this first hand?

Or do you mean you’re “watching” social media posts and mass media? And getting all riled up and regurgitating that here?

Oh you're adorable. But I don't argue with people denigrate the media just b/c you don't like what's being shown. You want to ignore your eyesight b/c your party tells you so? That's on you.

I can see voting for the Republicans maybe years ago if you were a fiscal Republican/concerned with social issues. But how can any intelligent person of color not see through the “woke is bad” BS? They laid it all out…Project 2025, Steven Miller, being associated with white supremacist groups. Thinking you were safe because you are the “right type” of immigrant. Now what?

Even Trump admitted about Stephen Miller, who controls immigration policy: "If it was up to Miller there would be only 100 million people in this country, and they would all look like him." They don't like immigrants of color. Period.

Sad
Since he's Jewish

But Jewish can be white. And according to Trump, Jews should support him because he's Israel's great white hope.

The fact that Trump picked a Jew who wants America to look like him (ie a white person) should've been a clear WTF sign to people. Miller has latent Nazi tendencies, which is why his uncle came out against him.

I'm a former R, not white, and a naturalized citizen, as are all my family members. DH is a white naturalized citizen, too, and he thinks the US is becoming like Germany pre 1939 where the government is "othering" people and blaming those others for all the countries woes. The denaturalization focus cements that.

Your DH is right. I have been saying the same thing for the last 8 years.

Haha, your housekeepers are no fools. Well played to them.

I am a US born Hispanic citizen in my 40s. Live here all my life. My parents had green cards when I was born. While I am a citizen, I feel like that means nothing anymore and with my brown skin, hair, and eyes, could easily be rounded up by ICE. They take people and ask questions later. It seems they are going anywhere and with the increased funding they have with this new budget bill, their presence is going to be increased significantly, especially in "sanctuary cities."

At 12 I read the Diary of Anne Frank. At that time, I was shocked how the world could let that happen and so I then decided to be a human rights lawyer. I made it all the way to a graduate degree in International Affairs and stopped short of law school due to the cost. Still, I worked in democracy assistance programs to support countries around the world. All this to say, I love the US and what is stands for but feel so betrayed by my fellow Americans.

These claims to go after criminals are nonsense. They are blaming us for the country's problems when in fact if the Hispanic population in the US was a country, we would be the 5th wealthiest in the world. They are dehumanizing all of us. They are referring to us as alligator food. This reminds me of the Hutus calling the Tutsis roaches just before the genocide in Rwanda. They are sowing so much hate and I see no end to this.

I am scared.

Troll.
Thank your fellow Hispanics for handing the win to their favorite president. #sexismracismwonin2024
