Are other Hispanics worried?

It takes for some categories 20 years for a US citizen to legally sponsor a relative from Mexico. So when you have hundreds of thousands of Hispanics following immigration laws, there is resentment that people are jumping the line.

When you have Hispanic immigrants who came illegally anytime before the last 5-7 years and hustled to work and never cost cities billions to be housed and feed by some cities like NYC, theye is a feeling that the immigration round up is due to the new influx of so many claiming asylum.

And the new migrants who claim asylum can legally work after a year while so many illegal immigrants spent 20-30 years working in the shadows.

Now add regional difference with Hispanics from some countries like Venezuelans not liked by Hispanics from other countries. And plenty of Hispanics annoyed there hasn’t been better screening to keep out migrants who are criminals who then prey on other migrants.

You really can’t lump all Hispanics together. It really is a very diverse group. Just look at the percentage of ICE who are Hispanic. It is a very sizeable percentage.

Like ICE really cares where you’re from or if your did everything the “right way”.
You may not lump all Hispanics together, but the people in charge sure do.

"But, I didn't think he meant me.....".

Wait until they or someone they know get caught up in an ICE sweep because they look Hispanic.

Exactly. Republican supporting Cubans are suddenly finding out the hard way that MAGA makes no distinction between “us good Latinos” and “those bad Latinos who don’t belong.”

They all look alike to MAGA people..

Otherwise you might be swept up when they do regular raids on workplaces.

They are not raiding in sanctuary areas like Texas and Florida. This is why they are called sanctuary states.

Wait, you think some J6ers ICE deputy can tell the difference "between the good ones and the bad ones?"

This. A woman who worked for me -claiming asylum so was here legally- was just deported. She was a hard-working, kind, sweet woman who just wanted a better life. She didn't want this. But MANY hispanics and South Americans did. And so F them.

Trump has it out for Hispanics, doesn't he, right from his very first comments announcing he was running for president ("When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best"...). I don't remember him saying anything about Asians or white people who overstay their visas or work here without authorization. And yet he has employed undocumented Hispanics at his properties for decades. It seems to be personal--beyond garden variety racism.

And yet, last week an Iranian woman ---who came here 30 years ago fleeing the Iranian regime, was a legal resident, complied with all INS check-in requirements, and was married to a US citizen, was snatched away. And then there's the Evangelical MAGA Danish greencard holder in Mississippi with the 4 kids and homeschooling wife who reported to INS to complete (so he thought) the naturalization process but was snatched away because he had missed one form.

So no, I do not think this is just about Latinos, although it may have started that way for Trump. I also think that the rapid hiring in ICE is going to mean that a bunch of Proud Boy white supremacist rednecks are going to apply for jobs and use their unchecked power to grab anyone they think is a "furriner". Trump and JD Vance have a specific view that being American means being white, Christian, and born here to parents who were also US citizens.

Reason:

“Milne describes how a previous marriage from the early 80s might complicate his wife’s case.
“She was very young at this point. She got into a marriage, which we don’t know much about, and she got divorced. In her court records, it's deemed that it was fraudulent,” Milne said. They say her asylum applications were denied. In 1978, a judge ruled she could stay in the United States while she worked through her immigration case.“

FAFO. The trend of Hispanics voting for Trump republicans is one of the scariest things I’ve seen. Demographically they’ll be the most populous voting block soon and yet they’re voting against their interests.

Who are you to know their interests?

You’re an over-educated white person who arrogantly claims to know the needs of Latinos better than they know their own.

Disgusting bigotry.

Actually, most Hispanics are not worried.

Immigrants Are Embracing Trump's Crackdown on Immigration

New data shows a growing number of immigrant voters are backing Donald Trump and his hardline immigration agenda—marking a dramatic reversal from past elections.

According to an analysis of the American National Election Studies (ANES) by CNN's Harry Enten, immigrant voters, who favored Democrats by 32 points on immigration policy in 2020, now trust Republicans more on the issue by 8 points—a staggering 40-point swing.

Trump's share of the immigrant vote has steadily increased—from 36 percent in 2016 to 39 percent in 2020 and now to 47 percent in 2024, based on Cooperative Election Study (CES) data analyzed by Enten.

Perhaps even more telling is how immigrant voters feel about immigrants who are in the country illegally. In 2020, their net favorability stood at +23 points. This year that has flipped to -6—a 29-point decline in support for undocumented immigrants among immigrants themselves. Enten did not specify which demographics were included in his aggregate.

It comes as polls suggest that Trump's hardline immigration stance is resonating with much of the public. In a sharp turnaround from his first term, Trump now holds a net positive approval rating on immigration, rising from -21 in June 2017 to +1 today, according to CNN's Harry Enten—his biggest gain on any issue.

A YouGov/CBS News poll conducted June 4-6 found 54 percent of Americans support Trump's deportation program targeting undocumented immigrants, surpassing his ratings on the economy (42 percent) and inflation (39 percent). Additionally, 51 percent approve of ICE conducting searches.

An RMG Research poll echoed that result, with 58 percent backing the deportation efforts. And in an Insider Advantage survey, 59 percent approved of Trump's decision to send National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to the protests.

OP, there are over 65M Hispanic people in the US. If you just do the math, you'll see this isn't a rational fear. Don't hang out in Home Depot parking lots, don't join a gang, don't live in a homeless encampment dominated by illegal immigrants and you'll never even see an ICE officer.

You forgot to tell OP about the other places that h/she should not hang out while being Hispanic. These are places where Hispanics have been targeted by ICE.

- Workplaces (e.g., factories, construction sites, restaurants, car washes, farms)
- Homes
- Public spaces (e.g., streets, parks)
- Immigration offices (e.g., during check-ins or appointments)
- Courthouses
- Airports
- Community locations (e.g., shopping centers, shops)
- Medical offices or hospitals
-Schools

Yes! I grew up in AZ and it was all the snowbirds from the upper Midwest who thought Hispanic=illegal. They’re too stupid to understand Arizona was part of Mexico originally and wasn’t even a state until 1912. Hispanics have long lived legally in Az. They’re just dumb bigots.
