Did you read the article? ICE rounded up US citizens (there have been MANY reports of this) and in this particular case, the "prisoner" lost 40 pounds before he was finally freed. Why do you think it is ok for ICE to round up US citizens? Why do you think it is ok for humans to be rounded up and treated inhumanely against international rights and protocols?

In normal times, these would all be legitimate issues. However, Hispanics don’t have the luxury of working through these issues because Trump has reduced it all to brown = bad = deport. There were arguments galore on this board before the election where people tried to warn Hispanics that they were not safe with Trump and they should not vote for him and those people were attacked. Sooooo……

I'm scared for anyone who is not white. Hispanics today-asians tomorrow.....and on and on. This is a white christian nationalist movement. Eventually they will come or the whites who fight against it. Better wake up America.

OP here, I assure I am no troll and the distressing amount of hispanics who voted for him does not negate the fear many hispanics have now that he is implementing Project 2025.

Also, it wasn’t just hispanics that resulted in the win. It was also 1/3 of democrats that didn’t show up yo vote at all.

Democrats love to blame Latinos when it's White people who have handed Trump the White House two times. Majorities of every other racial group voted for Harris. I think logically I am aware I am probably safe. I present as White (my DH doesn't though). Neither DH nor I work in settings that are currently being targeted by ICE. We are both citizens.

But it does wear on me. It's scary. They probably won't grab us off the street, but it's possible, and there seem to be zero protections to prevent them from doing so apart from that they simply don't have the resources to detain every Latino/Hispanic person in the US. They are getting substantially more resources under the new bill so no worries!

Maybe if police departments cooperated with ICE they could just have the criminals transferred to their custody, and “rounding up” people wouldn’t be necessary.

Of course it would be necessary since the ultimate goal is to Make America White and that requires deporting /murdering non-criminals. That is why ICE has these huge quotas that they can't possibly meet by focusing on violent offenders.
