If you stick to your guns, I would give you a bad review because of how paltry the refund is. If you only now came back to me and suggested a refund for Sat-Tues, as is only fair, then I would accept the deal, and perhaps not leave any review, because of the time you took to come to your senses and the negotiations I had to undertake. So, neutral. If you had proposed a Sat-Tues refund right off the bat, I would have given you a good review, saying that the A/C had an issue but that the host had done their best to compensate for it. |
+1. |
Treat it like a hotel. No way a hotel chain wouldn’t refund the night they were without some amenity. Full refund if the night. |
We never maintain our ac unit but it’s been running just fine over 25 years, and on its last legs the past 5 seasons. Now you expect us to take responsibility for it to need total repair during high season? |
This is nonsense. OP did not provide what was advertised for multiple days of the stay, and then they had to deal with the repairmen in the unit. Plus, the risk and cost of something breaking is on the host, no the guest. I agree with those who have suggested 50% off the entire stay. In other words, no charge for the days with no central air. |
OP deserves whatever horrible reviews they have coming. I hope it deters people from renting and similarly being taken advantage of. Perhaps being property owners isn’t for you, OP. |
wtf op you need to give them a partial refund! The hassle of it all on vacation. They don't want to come back for two day off season and I don't blame them. don't be cheap. |
Window units aren’t the same as central AC. You inconvenienced them. Do you want a bad review?
At least a 30% discount seems fair. But I’d probably err on the side of being generous. Do you have a property management company? What discount do they suggest? |
This should be included in the negative review. |
OP, did the renters have to deal with the repair guys on Sunday? On Tuesday? |
I think you should refund in full for Sat-Tuesday.

There’s also zero guarantee something won’t break at a hotel, but a hotel will either set you up in different accommodations, or they will REFUND you. |
So they had no AC at all on Saturday night, )I wouldn’t have slept at all), portable AC in bedrooms only on Sunday night and Monday night, (which are noisy, and don’t cool the rest of the rental), workers in the house on Tuesday for at least half a day (I’ve had new units installed and it takes at least that long).
Not to mention the homeowner showing up on Sunday and in their two private bedrooms installing window units for at least 2 hours, plus phone calls, etc. in addition. That’s 4/7 nights they’ve been totally inconvenienced and uncomfortable. A refund of 4/7 is minimally required, although I’d round it to 5/7 for goodwill. You’re lucky they didn’t check out the first night and cancel for the week for a full refund. |
You are making excuses. I don’t want to come back to a beach condo that’s 76 degrees on my vacation. It isn’t your fault but you ARE responsible for the cost. You keep saying that you did your best to fix it but that doesn’t matter. You didn’t provide them with what they reasonably expected. Give them 50% off the stay and expect a bad review. Full refund and maybe you can avoid a bad review. They are already probably now stressed about losing money and negotiating that they want a refund and not a week in the off-season. This is why people don’t want to Airbnb! Be a good host. |
Aside from having to deal with home maintenance issues while on vacation, I don't see equivalency between central air and window units. I would't rent anyplace that didn't have central air. |
