which of these schools for ed1?

There’s almost 0 overlap with these schools and brown

You can’t get in…if you don’t apply.

Just ED1 to Chicago. This profile is almost guaranteed admit. Lots of philosophy majors. He'll love it.

Nonsensical babble. If people at your school haven’t ed, they will not get in. No misinformation in that.

The weird trolls trying to force op’s kid into a university confuse me as to why they go on these threads.

OP, I’d seriously look at CMC.

The consortium and the physical proximity of the colleges make it so easy to take classes at any one of the 5Cs, thereby substantially expanding the philosophy offerings your DS can tap into. Look at the combined course catalog: https://portal.claremontmckenna.edu/ICS/Portal_Homepage.jnz?portlet=External_Content

Our DC did a ton of research into philosophy depts and the Claremont Colleges really rose to the top based on the offerings. Headed to Pomona in the fall; applied RD unhooked.

doesn't CMC (enrollment 1388) also have athletic recruiting that would impact ed numbers.

I know they share a sports team w mudd (915) and scripps (1082), but all three of those schools have an enrollment of 3385 all together if I'm doing my math correctly.

I guess 3300 instead of 2300 makes the difference?

CMC, yes. Real ED advantage. If you are set on CMC, go ahead. Otherwise, no ED or find another ED school.

Sure they do. Just not for your unhooked kid.

I find feeder schools to be a big hook at Williams. They seem to take a lot URM kids via questbridge and their internal program and then nyc kids from privates. If that's you, talk to your college counselor.

NYC privates not longer send many to Williams. Horace Mann's big targets are Chicago, Cornell, Columbia, and Georgetown.
SWAP take a lot of URM, FG, LI in the ED round.

Best liberal arts college in the country? Amherst is the fourth best school in the NESCAC.

trying to narrow down ed1 .. like all right now.
williams, bowdoin, pomona, cmc.

feel good about Midd or Wes for ED2.

our naviance isn't very helpful because we have a lot of very hooked kids.

This is a tough one. I would ED1 to CMC. It will help and it is a far more desirable outcome than Midd or Wes, where kid is likely headed after a likely ED1 rejection from Williams, Bowdoin, or Pomona.

CMC is a great school but the idea that it is "a far more desirable outcome than Midd or Wes" is laughable.

Agree with this PP, IF OP is private URM, that is a big hook for Williams. But OP said no hook.
