NP and come on, you must know not everyone has access to or even likes hanging out at a pool. My 15 yo will go again today and this is what she did yesterday too. They will be there for a while and get food at the snack bar. It’s very social. It’s a private pool we were on a wait list to even join but technically it’s the neighborhood pool. My other kid never liked the pool and has never gone. He’s 17 and he will sleep half the day, maybe do some of his summer class, maybe not, and will probably meet up with friends later to get something to eat. He’s not working today. I know this isn’t about older kids but I’m giving an example of what kids do that don’t go to pools. |
Most days for my 14yo are video games, YouTube, kicking the soccer ball around outside, making food, neighborhood odd jobs, maybe a fun outdoor activity with me, more video games and YouTube. We're also taking advantage of Club World Cup matches happening this week and next. |
A family that has a child doing ballet year round on a daily basis except Sundays ($$$$$) definitely has access to a pool. They said they went when kids were younger even. So someone is obviously playing dumb. |
To act like they don’t know what it means where someone says their kid “went to the pool” is beyond ridiculous. It obviously means the neighborhood pool. |
You are quoting me but maybe not. Our waitlist was 8 years. We got on it right when we bought our house. We know plenty of people with teens who don’t have a pool and their kids can only go if they have friends with a membership and are on a guest pass. Every pool in our area has multi-year wait lists and many memberships transfer with house sales. These are the neighborhood pools. |
And adding to my post, before someone asks where this is, here is our pool. It looks like the current wait list is over 10 years. My kid walks here. It’s definitely a neighborhood pool. No one moving here is getting in unless a membership comes with the house. Ours didn’t. https://chsrc.com/membership-information-6/ |
There are plenty of pools in the area that you can join as a non member. |
Ok but how does one not understand what it means when posters are saying their teens go to “the pool”? They literally needed clarification on “the pool.” Common sense people. |
Seriously? You wouldn’t say “the pool” if it’s your own backyard pool. Use some common sense. |
14 yo is ebiking around town with friends today. Trying to talk to girls. Had a morning sports practice. They made breakfast and left a big mess for me to clean up. |
Really? You think everyone on DCUM who says their teen goes to “the pool” is referring to this one mysterious pool? GTFO. Obviously it’s some neighborhood pool they are members of. |
Summers are meant for the pool. Very sad if kids don’t go for the pool at all the entire summer. Swimming is a life skill. |
15 is a little old for the pool, except to go there to meet boys or girls. Also, I would argue that summers are meant for the lake, the beach, or the ocean, not a crowded suburban pool. |
Meet boys or girls? Too old for the pool? You do know they have swim team for kids up to 18? Kids go to the pool to workout or hang out with friends. Some kids go daily. You are never too old for the pool. Most people don’t spend an entire summer at a lake, beach or ocean. The pool in the summer is a staple around here. |
+1 that's not the first time I've heard that here. |
